Vampire Weekend – Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa (The Teenagers Remix)

September 18th, 2008 by Larry

The truth is out! I listen to Vampire Weekend’s self-titled album secretly when no one else is at work. I played the record for a week straight earlier this year and wore-out it’s welcome around the studio in a major way. Did anyone else get sick of this album really quickly? Thankfully, this remix of Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa is one that can be played around the homies without fear of insults or passive-aggressive comments.

The Teenagers have turned a song full of repetitive jingles into something deeper and more distant. The original melodies have been preserved, only The Teenagers have replaced Vampire Weekend’s prep-school/baroque tendencies (ie: tiny Marc Jacobs boy shorts, suspenders, and unrelenting arpeggios) with some much needed edge (ie: tattered jeans, beer-goggles, and snare drum action).

I listen to vampire weekend with full knowledge of the consequences that may follow. The remix is dope. So is that photo.

i didn’t know what to think of this remix at first…i’m fully in the open with my love for Vampire Weekend. the disco snares were a good addition, but rather than tattered jeans, i still hear leather pants. it grew on me though…i can dig it. i’d still rather hear some grinding guitars in a remix of this song rather than the spaced-out house sound. and i think any VW remix needs to leave the drum parts intact, if not amplify and build on them.

but word, that photo is pure hotness.
