Atlanta’s New Nike Store Preview

October 29th, 2008 by Larry

11.jpg
You get this card after your Nike iD session. See my creation after the jump.

I just got home from a tour at the new Nike Store at Lenox here in Atlanta that opens tomorrow [10.30.08]. I think that most ATLiens that love hands-on design are going to respond positively to the NikeiD and T Bar offerings that make this store very worthwhile. See everything after the jump.

EC ♥ Collaborations: Update

October 28th, 2008 by Ted

img_3638.jpg

The formula was simple: A t-shirt design I wanted to put to good use combined with some willing participants at the Atlanta Bicycle Campaign (ABC) resulted in the printing of this shirt in black and yellow color-ways. I gave away ten shirts to my closest bike-minded friends, but if you would like one of your own, contact the ABC or one of the EC crew.

Update: T-shirts in yellow and black with the ABC name (mens and ladies) are available from the ABC, just contact them here!

T-shirts in black only without the ABC name (mens and ladies) will be available starting this week from the EC online store.

Atlanta’s New Nike Store Teaser

October 27th, 2008 by Larry

You’ve probably heard or noticed that Nike will be opening a new flagship store in Atlanta this Thursday. I’ll be on a “behind the scenes” store preview Wednesday afternoon [10/29/08] and I’m going to post photos on Wednesday afternoon/evening so everyone can see the store before it opens on Thursday.

Earlier this year, I attended the Nike Sportswear store opening celebrations at 21 Mercer in New York City and I’m interested to see what special elements they’ve incorporated from 21 Mercer into ATL’s newest gem!

THE WALL @ LE FLASH

October 26th, 2008 by Ted

thewall.jpg

Friday night at 7pm marked the start of LE FLASH in Castleberry Hill. Although some light precipitation moved into the city, attendance was considerably high. During my time attending LE FLASH, I grabbed some photos of people interacting with the installation of THE WALL from both inside and street-side of Art House Gallery. The external experience of THE WALL is the ultimate use of the concept, as it is from the vantage point of the sidewalk that it becomes a public community billboard. THE WALL had its night of glory, and from the looks of the image archive, got quite a bit of use. It’s great to see this idea come to life!

Some other interesting installations and street performances can be seen after the jump. Thanks again to Steve and Shane at Art House Co-op for being hosts to THE WALL for the night. If anyone would like to be hosts of your own version of THE WALL, let us know!

Vampire Weekend - Ottoman

October 26th, 2008 by Larry

Is Vampire Weekend as obsessed with Charles & Ray Eames furniture as I am? They recorded this track for the Juno 2, I mean, Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist soundtrack. Definitely easy on the ears for the Monday grind.

Lily Allen - Everyone’s At It

October 23rd, 2008 by Larry

Here’s a treat for all the Lily Allen fans… and don’t say you don’t listen to her, because I remember her first album was everybody’s jam for a hot minute with all the design school kids. This is the first single off of her upcoming release, It’s Not Me, It’s You which is set for February 9th, 2009.

Lily’s new attitude is about pulling back from the all-nighters and designer drugs to focus on more meaningful stuff. This time around she had a hand in writing lyrics AND music. Before she was writing lyrics to tracks that were pre-made (lame). Speaking of designer drugs, do I smell a remix?

Photo Friday: Alec Soth

October 23rd, 2008 by Ross

alec_soth_1.jpg

So this week were gonna come back to Alec Soth. To give a bit of basic background, Soth is a photographer based in Minneapolis, Minnesota and is a member of the highly acclaimed Magnum Photos agency. His work ranges from landscapes to portraits but the best part is there is a coherent look to everything that he does. Most everything he shoots is done with an  8 x 10 view camera and done using mostly natural light.

To me Soth is one of the most interesting photographers that is working right now. His approach to photography is certainly not a conventional one, especially with how popular and easily accessible digital photography has become, but because he uses such a unique approach his work stands out. The really awesome thing about Soth, and one of the things that makes me motivated, is that he actually has something to say. His blog just started back up after a brief hiatus and so far he has had some interesting things to say.

Check out more of Alec Soth’s work and a video after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

Muffy Mommy - Dopeboy

October 23rd, 2008 by Larry

From the producer who brought you Lil Wayne’s A Milli - Bangladesh’s new artist Muffy Mommy hits you with her new single, DopeBoy. I feel like the overall concept of this song is a similar effort to Estelle’s American Boy except it’s an ATL girl singing about how she is in love with dudes with fresh sneakers from the mall. Very deep stuff. At the very least, it’s original, local, and not another M.I.A. rip-off.

Ponderosa - Girl I’ve Ever Seen

October 22nd, 2008 by Larry

I was recently lucky enough to receive a copy of Ponderosa’s newest album to preview. All I have to say is it’s great to know that there’s a band from Atlanta that is holding down the rock and roll scene with some class and authenticity. The track I’m posting is one of their slower/softer songs, but the breakdown in the middle that slowly builds back up is really one of the best uses of musical rests that I’ve heard in ages.

I know you can pick up their EP, and possibly this new album at their next show in town at the Star Bar on Saturday, November 1st. Do yourself a favor and go see Ponderosa.

THE WALL at Art House Gallery this Friday

October 21st, 2008 by Ted

thewall2.jpg

A revised version of my technology mash-up project called THE WALL will be installed at Art House Gallery @ 309 Peters Street this Friday October 24, 2008. It is part of a nighttime event called LE FLASH, a night of light taking place in Castleberry Hill consisting of over 30 installations, street performances, and exhibitions using electricity, light, and sound. It promises to be a sight for the eyes.

THE WALL is more than an electronic billboard, it is a social tool. It combines multiple existing technologies to put the power of large-scale public imagery into the hands of the local community. With it, a neighborhood can instantly share user-defined content with each other in order to communicate, inspire, and build a sense of community.

Email a photo from phone or computer to GO@ARTHOUSECOOP.COM Your photo will appear on THE WALL within 20 seconds

Visit http://thewall.arthousecoop.com to see THE WALL for yourself. Click the THE WALL icon to view the archive of all past submissions. As always, submissions are anonymous but fill-in the email’s Subject line to identify yourself. For more info, contact ted@epidemikcoalition.com
