Gorillaz – DoYaThing

February 28th, 2012 by Keenan

The brand new Converse x Gorillaz 2012 shoe collection has spawned something way more than just a couple pairs of really dope sneakers. Converse’s musical experiment, 3 Artists, 1 Song, has truly made a musical eargasm with their newest track, DoYaThing”.

The new song teams the Gorillaz together with LCD Soundsystem’s creative front man James Murphy and also throws in some superior tongue-twisting lyrics from Mr. Andre 3000 of OutKast. Damon of the Gorillaz owns the first two verses with a certain playful mischievousness that only his 2-D persona could create. In between 2-D’s first and second verse, Murphy chimes in singing the hook in his famous high-pitched falsetto voice. The groovy 60’s sounding organs in the background make for a nice mellow vibe while Murphy’s touch of synthesizer sound keeps your head bobbing to the beat. Mr. 3000 starts his verse with a little singing, as he has been known to do, but once he gets into his rhyming it’s one hell of a ride. Very few rappers can put words like “onomatopoeia” and “Juicy Fruit” into their rhymes but Andre does it with such style and charm that it’s actually cool.

Murphy definitely makes his own stylish imprint on the song but the lyrical flows of Andre and Damon are unquestionably the highlight of the track. Be sure to look out for a 12 minute video version of the song, sure to be a crazy, Gorillaz-y head-trip for all, to be released in the near future.
