I’m a huge fan of Air Jordan sneakers, but usually my fandom is limited to retro models that MJ actually wore on court or signature models such as the CP3.IV. That being said, I tend to ignore many Team Jordan models. Once in awhile however, Jordan Brand releases a shoe that catches my attention; and that’s exactly what they did this week with the release of the Jordan Phase 23 Hoops Joe Johnson PE’s. Perhaps I’m all ears because they have something to do with my beloved Atlanta Hawks? Perhaps, it’s because the heel strap that reminds me of the Air Jordan IV (one of my favorites)? Or maybe it’s because the forefoot strap reminds me of Nike Air Trainers from the Bo Jackson days? More likely than not, it’s a combination of all 3 of these reasons.
This is a shoe that I can see myself wearing at Philips Arena while cheering on our Hawks. Truth be told, Joe Johnson is a quieter player and doesn’t get any national shine. So it’s difficult as an Atlanta Hawks fan to want to wear a Melo shoe or DWade shoe (they are our rivals). It’s awesome to see that Jordan Brand is releasing something I can truly back 100%.
Supposedly Joe Johnson will be wearing these in the 2nd round of the playoffs, but I didn’t see them on his feet during Game 1 in Chicago. Perhaps we’ll see them tonight!
Yelawolf is one of the biggest artists to come out of Atlanta in recent years and we’re proud to see that he’s not only down with We Are the Process, but that he takes his own initiative in customizing our shirts in his personal way. Thanks to PJ for sending this over!
@primetimecody sent us this picture yesterday. This shows one of our 1st stickers we ever made as Epidemik Coalition, which was stuck on that sign roughly 5 years ago. This was long before we decided to launch our brand, We Are the Process. As you can see, someone put in the effort to stick one of our new Warpaint Nokahoma stickers on top of this old one. It’s crazy how far we’ve come. Yet, there’s still a long way to go!
Last Friday I caught my first show at the Graveyard’s new concert venue, The Basement. They’ve been talking about expanding into this venue for a long time and now I see why it took them so long. Everything about this new place was executed flawlessly. The furnishings are on point, and the soundsystem is amazing. The band of the evening, U.S. Royalty, blew my ears back! I’ve been listening to them for a few years now, but hadn’t seen them live until this point. The band rocks so damn hard, and lead singer John Thornley, has a voice that gives you chills. Do yourself a favor and go see USR live.
Mae Couture at The Center for Design Study in Atlanta, GA.
Yesterday, Georgios and I dropped by The Center for Design study to say hello to our friend Rick Anwyl. Many of you will remember Rick as the guy who gave our company a home in his building immediately after we graduated from Portfolio Center in 2007. During our visit yesterday, we met fashion designer Caroline Mae, creator of the line Mae Couture. Upon seeing her work from across the room, we thought her dresses looked amazing.
After talking to her for 2 minutes, we realized that her clothes are constructed out of old military parachutes! Whaaaat?!? Take a second to think about that. These soft, beautifully crafted pieces once existed to provide a soft landing for military men and were made to withstand the elements. Now, I wouldn’t call myself a fashion designer (because what Georgios & I do have more to do with graphic design and visual communication on the canvas of a tee or cap) but I will say that I haven’t seen anything this interesting or exciting come out of the world of fashion in quite some time. Mae Couture is truly cool. Now if only we can get her to create some stuff for the bros…
The new issue of HOOP arrived at our studio today. I always love cracking open an issue of this magazine because it makes me feel like a kid again. I get the same feeling when I tear open a pack of baseball cards. There’s always some fantasy & nostalgia involved; as if I’m going to be taking in pages of beautifully photographed sneakers I’ll never play in and gain tons of basketball insight. Included in this month’s issue is a tear out poster of Russell Westbrook dunking during the NBA All-Star Game. More importantly, Atlanta Hawks guard Joe Johnson is also captured in the image! Yes, we’ve already hung this one up in The Treehouse next to our posters of Kevin Durant, Brandon Roy, & Derrick Rose.
We recently teamed up with the fine folks at Graveyard Tavern who were looking to do something unique with their new downstairs concert venue called The Basement. They asked us to put our unique spin on a small walk-in room in the back of the venue.
If you’re having a great time at The Basement, but you need a few minutes of privacy to take care of whatever you please, then check out “The Process Room” in the back of the building.
The photo above doesn’t do the room justice. You have to see our graphic installation in person. Make sure you remember to tweet pics from inside this room to us at @WeAreTheProcess to be randomly selected to win prizes!
We’ve joined forces with our friends at Esperanza to play in ATL Bocce’s Spring 2011 League that plays in Piedmont Park every Tuesday night. Last night, we had our second match and upheld our undefeated record. Everything began as a casual afternoon of drinking beer in the park but it got increasingly competitive as dusk set upon the city. I can’t wait to get back out there next week, as long as the Atlanta Hawks playoff games don’t get in the way!
I love the idea of cooking with Coca-Cola (& Dr. Pepper) so much that I started talking about making a BBQ sauce out of Coca-Cola on the long drive back from SXSW. By the time we got home, Georgios had already found several recipes on the internet. I decided to try one that sounded rather easy. As you can see here, all of the ingredients are easily found in a grocery store.
I was relatively happy with the recipe from the internet, but it’s going to need some tweaking. My main gripe with the recipe I worked from was that too many of the ingredients were basically sauces themselves. There’s gotta be another way! I’m going to continue to perfect this recipe until I have a handle on it. Someday I’ll share it with you! But not until it’s ready.
The Coathangers are a modern day, Dirty South answer to The Runaways; and a hell of a lot better if you ask me. We’ve been listening to their records for quite some time now and we’re happy to report that they’re hitting us in the face again with a new track inspired by NOLA called Hurricane. The track is from their upcoming album Larceny & Lace, releasing on June 7th.
The past 2 weeks on the road have been very exhausting, yet super fun and rewarding. I had so much fun meeting new people and seeing their positive reactions to our efforts. Here are some photos and videos from our trip to New Orleans, Austin, & Charleston as well as some friends’ pics sent in via Twitter. Enjoy! Read the rest of this entry »
Thanks to everyone that came out to the Nice Kicks shop to celebrate the release of the Nice Kicks vs. We Are the Process “Southern Series” collection. It was great to meet all the people that have been following us on Twitter, and it’s always fun to share our story of Southern pride! More photos of the event are after the jump and at NiceKicks.com. Yesterday, StyleX & GoTryItOn.com launched a tweet-based brand showdown/popularity contest between all StyleX exhibitors. We immediately sent the message out to our followers and got a huge response. Thank you!
If you have a twitter account please login and send your vote our way. This could swing the fate of our South by Southwest experience in a good way if we are to stay on top of the leaderboard.
All you need to do is tweet the following: I’m voting #wearit for @wearetheprocess at @stylexaustin! http://gotryiton.com/sxsw

So here’s a glimpse of our booth set-up for Style X. It’s missing a few finishing touches, but we decided it was in our best interest to get a rough feel for set-up day. It’s sure to be a stressful load-in, so we wanted to work out any kinks in the comfort of our own studio beforehand.
A few months back, Matt Halfhill from Nice Kicks called me about working on a special collection of clothing and hats for his brand. Rather than do the typical “collab”, I suggested we do something a little different, hence the idea for Nice Kicks vs. We Are the Process. Since both brands represent their region of the Southern USA, we decided to brand this showdown as The Southern Series. There are a lot of element from the Process brand that were easy to carry over into the baseball aesthetic, however Nice Kicks needed some new elements to be created by us. Parts of their branding already existed, but the most important new identity mark we created for them was an western-inspired interlocking NK logo. What do y’all think? Check out more photos and the official press release jargon after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »
