Experiment or Die Studios IV

May 19th, 2009 by Larry

1.jpg

Welcome to East Point! We’ve recently moved our studio space (again) to the origins of the world-famous Outkast. Despite the props from everyone as a result of our recent Vimby.com studio tour and interview, the time felt right for the move. We haven’t completely finished unpacking, but we wanted to show off the new spot that we’ve already dubbed, The Treehouse, due to it’s intentionally unfinished interior.

Free Pie ATL

May 15th, 2009 by Ted

dollup.jpg

Relish, the creative event design company that burst into the Atlanta scene planning and executing the PROCESS launch circuit in March is now up to something pretty big. Pretty big, pretty yummy, and totally free. Free Pie!

The catalysts, Melissa and Reena, have this to say: “The world is kinda crazy. FREE PIE isn’t. Join a burgeoning movement. Make a pie. Pick a spot. Give it Away. Yep, it’s that simple - no strings, no logos, no agenda - just a random act of kindness.”

This Saturday, May 16, starting at 2:00pm, free pieces of homemade pie will be given away at over a (baker’s) dozen locations around the city. Go here for more info on locations to grab a slice and how to sign up to help if you’re interested!

Where are you from?
College Park, Georgia!

Who do you work for?
For 18 amazing children in the Early Preschool Class at an Autistic Center.

What are your Current Project(s)?
When I’m not being miss teacher lady, I’m a complete 35mm film junkie. I’m working on building a portfolio under my nom de guerre “Kneesees Pieces” as well as Analog Girls. I have really big ideas as to where I’d like this all to go… but I’ll be about it before I talk about it. Eventually I’d love to see my work turn into little exhibits and books. It’s all for the love of film.. I’m no fame and fortune seeker.

Who would you love to work with?
Storytellers, visionaries and genuine, worldly people. Thats all.

If you had to give all your sneakers away to charity except for one pair, which ones would you keep?
My wal mart shoes. They’re one in a billion.

What’s on your iPod right now?
I actually don’t even have an iPod but my iTunes is playing lots of Camera Obscura, Au Revoir Simone, The Radio Dept., The Cure, Broken Social Scene, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and almost everything 80s.

What’s your Favorite ATL food?
I’m always hungry. So can we say foods? Hot Cafe in College Park is my Thai food comfort haven. It’s really Laotian owned, but thats when you know it’s real good. The 5Spot has the best sammiches. I love Flying Biscuit in Candler Park.. and oh yeah R. Thomas. I told you I was always hungry.

What’s your Favorite ATL hangout?
El Bar? El yeah! Duh!

What are your Pet Peeves?
I’m super passive. I notice everything and nothing at the same time. On top of that, I work with two-year-olds… you could only imagine the things I go through. So I think I’ve built an even more higher tolerance for things.

Shout outs?
My analog ladies.. Hadiyah & Ashley, my little minions who give me the occasional black eye and bruised legs and everyone else who has mused me on my film projects! aye!

Fugees Family Featured on CNN

May 7th, 2009 by Larry

.
The other day I was sitting through a layover in the Tokyo Narita Airport in Japan when I looked up from playing NBA Live to see a familiar face on CNN. Coach Luma Mufleh and the Fugees Family were being featured on a special about Africa and I was excited for that kind of global exposure for their organization. I wanted to stand up in the middle of the airport and exclaim, “I know her, we worked together!” The website that EC created for them is shown several times in the feature as well. I was floored.

We’re currently diving into new projects with Creative Capital, and Basil & Sons, a men’s pants line.

Who would you love to work with?
We’re lucky to collaborate with so many great people already –  you and the Epidemik Coalition team, Armchair, Ignition, plus a whole bunch of folks in NY. As for clients, we want to be the creative resource for a handfull of social and business entreprenuers.

If you had to give all your sneakers away to charity except for one pair, which ones would you keep?

Atlanta Hawks Alternate Uniforms???

May 3rd, 2009 by Larry

atlanta_hawks_alternate_jersey_2009.jpg
Does anyone know someone that works at Atlanta Spirit?

Firstly, Congrats to the Atlanta Hawks for their first playoff series victory in 10 years! It’s been amazing to watch the process of transforming the worst team in the league to one of the most exciting teams to watch.

While I was poking around on some sports uniform/logo blogs earlier today (yes, I totally nerd-out on sports aesthetics) it dawned on me how the late 2007 rebrand of the Atlanta Hawks didn’t include an alternate uniform. Also, they eliminated using Yellow (which had been a team color since ‘72), downplayed the use of Red, and introduced Navy Blue and Silver as team colors. Currently, they wear predominantly White uniforms at home and Navy Blue uniforms on the road. I’ve included a Hawks uniform timeline PDF here.

Since there is no current Hawks alternate uniform, I quickly comped an idea onto a Josh Smith photo from their 2007-2008 campaign; using Red as the predominant color and the ATL city abbreviation. I’m not sure if there is a possibility for Hawks management to introduce a new alternate uniform for next season, but now would be a great time in Hawks history to do so. ATL pride is high, David Stern could make more money, and I’d definitely spend my hard earned cheese on a Red-Alternate Zaza Pachulia jersey!

DJ Slugger’s new mixtape, Keep It Hood The Sequel: Stay Gutter stays true to his grime-time roots. Really great stuff. I’ve been bumping on the streets of HK for about a week now. It’s the least I can do to feel like I’m home.

DC Shoes x Standard - Admiral Hightop

April 28th, 2009 by Georgios

dc_stand_adm8a-2.jpg

After years of having their feet planted firmly in the Atlanta lifestyle market, Standard opened the doors to it’s second location in Lenox Square. To commemorate the expansion, Standard has partnered up American footwear giant DC Shoes for their first collaborative efforts. The goal in this collaboration was to represent design elements that have always been strongly present in the motif of Standard. The true red color embodies the strong presence of red accents at both locations along with the green laces and insole, which represent the artificial turf that covers the floor at the new store, as well as the live turf used at various events at the original location.

Check out more at the Standard Blog.

Keepin’ it Local

April 28th, 2009 by Larry

ll_hk_425.jpg

Howdy from the other side of the globe! I’ve been in HK for the past few days and I thought it’d be nice to rep StreetLocal (one of our favorite brands/crews from ATL) while on the go. I’ve been using this StreetLocal Gentleman comb every day to keep my mane in check. As soon as I have a chance to edit my photos, I’ll post some interesting stuff I’ve been working on. It’s fun being in Asia but I can’t wait to be back with the crew in the Dirty-Dirty. Let’s get it Hawks!

Habachy Designs Website

April 20th, 2009 by Larry

habachy_designs_website.jpg

ATL’s best interior design company, Habachy Designs, came to Epidemik Coalition needing a new website. After a few meetings at their downtown Atlanta office, which has an amazing view of the city, we quickly had wireframes and site-structure in hand. It was only a matter of days to implement everything and get it live. It was a pleasure working with Michael and Evan on this project and we’re looking forward to future EC/Habachy collaborations.
