First record in the Geographic North subscription series, You Can’t Hide Your Love Forever. 2 exclusive tracks from A Sunny Day in Glasgow.

Geographic North is a new Atlanta-based record label started by our friends Farbod Kokabi & Farzad Moghaddam. They’re making limited edition 7-inch records in a series called, You Can’t Hide Your Love Forever. $36 buys you a 6-month subscription to their releases, which figures to be roughly 6 records, special gifts, and free shipping.

The Americola

July 19th, 2008 by Larry

Here in Hotlanta, we’re always trying to find new ways to stay cool during the summer. When we want our caffeine fix, we don’t drink iced coffees or americanos because they’re boring. Ted Ullrich (always thinking of fresh ideas) invented the Americola so that we could stay cool, buzzed, and uniquely Atlanta. The first step to enjoying an Americola is befriending your local barista. Our baristas of choice hold it down at Octane. These kids are ATL’s coffee experts. Seriously, they go to all kinds of espresso-making competitions and win with their eyes closed. If your local barista is down, then ask him/her to follow this recipe exactly as follows:

1) fill a pint glass halfway with ice
2) brew espresso directly into glass
3) add Coca-Cola (directly from fountain) until the mixture slightly overflows

Thanks to Matt Crumpton for letting us harass him while downing his Americola.

On Any Given Day…

August 13th, 2007 by Larry

you’ll run into tons of familiar faces at The Center for Design Study. Wade Thompson teaches a number of Portfolio Center classes over here, Rick and Brice have client meetings, and others are just rolling through to check out snap photos of the building. This past Saturday, Jorge Menes had his camera up here and we decided to take an impromptu picture of everyone in the house.

ATL Spot Review: MJQ Concourse

January 3rd, 2007 by Larry

dscf1144.jpg

We’re all over MJQ, and so is Kenny (the dude busting a move in the corner of this pic). If you’ve been to a show in Atlanta, you’ve probably seen Kenny. He’s eerily chillin’ at center stage.

We tend to hit up MJQ on Wednesday evenings around the midnight hour. MJQ is an underground club that is a converted parking garage. Upon entering a small shed that houses a tunnel that leads into the bowels of Ponce de Leon Avenue, you are overcome with the smell of alcohol, sweat, smoke, cheap cologne, weed, and hairspray. I know…it sounds so appealling.

Trust me, the DJs usually make up for the fact that you have to step over strung-out skinny dudes, who are always passed-out in the bathrooms. Setlists on Wednesdays are usually back-to-back hits ranging from Blur to the hottest crunk anthems…officially called “Brit Pop” but more appropriately deemed as Rock for ATLiens.

We’ve put together this walkthrough for EC army out-of-towners. Sped, when you get down here, we’ll be doing this all the time, so get ready.
See more of MJQ after the jump.

Girl Talk @ Decatur Social Club

October 8th, 2006 by Larry

What a riot!
Girl Talk rolled into Decatur on Friday night (10.6).
The dancefloor stayed hot while all the regulars threw down to an amazing and unpredictable set. Ladies were dressed-up in costume, lesbians played grab-ass, and ballers bobbed their heads to the crunk beats.

Burning-hot photos after the jump.

Air Jordan Grape Campout 9.29-9.30 midnight

September 30th, 2006 by Larry

Lacey was the first person in line, and people were shocked that a girl would be first in line. Dirty looks were being shot up to the front of the line all day.

I’m glad we arrived crazy-early to Niketown Atlanta. It really paid-off as there were only three pairs of 10.5 available to the general public, one pair of 11’s and only three pairs of 10’s. This range consists of the most common foot sizes…meaning that if we weren’t first in line, not all of us would have been able to score our respective sizes.

Post-Critique Madness

September 16th, 2006 by Larry

Comrades,

Lemme start off by saying our critiques went really well for the whole crew. Any confidence we were lacking with our school designs has disappeared and we now rule the world.

We’re a hard working bunch and we make it work. We also don’t take any $hit from anyone…you haters (with Napoleon complexes) know who you are and we’re about to make your asses work for us [sorry for the belligerence, but it’s been a long time coming]. Maybe if you worked hard for what you wanted, you’d realize that your hate is just a bunch of jealousy and that you’re too much of a lazy-bitch to get your own thing going…which is why you hate on us.

So this night was a celebration of finishing another chapter at PC. Another one will be starting soon in October. Everything that was supposed to happen happened. Alena came out with her friends, Jorge took these insane photos, Dave “Night Ripper” McCanless got drunk and spilled everyone’s drinks…

It was great to see a good portion of the Atlanta EC family out and kickin’ it. Thanks to everyone who came out. You guys truely are the best.

Cheers to Jorge who will be in Germany for the next few months. We’ll miss working with him. He’s definitely the most hard-working, sincere, easy-to-work-with, and personable photographer we’ve ever met.
