January 11th, 2010 by Georgios

Everyone is a rapper or some kind of artist in Atlanta but some of them actually have talent. Def Jam’s newest artist, Cyhi Da Prynce is one of these artists. Check out these 2 videos: Studda & I’m 100. Studda was filmed in our favorite boutique/hangout spot, Standard. Keep your eye out in “I’m 100″ video for some Process gear.

Congrats Falcons!

January 3rd, 2010 by Larry

falcons.jpg

The Atlanta Falcons finished the season at 9-7, just missing the playoffs, but this snaps a 44 year drought of not having consecutive winning seasons. It might not seem like much, but this is great progress for a team that was recently dismantled and reassembled with “more responsible” parts. Maybe next year, barring injuries, ATL can make a run at the top!

Holiday Chillin’

December 25th, 2009 by Larry

cristo_ben_pettus.jpg

Here’s a photo I snapped of Cristo & Ben chillin’ in the back room at El Bar this past Wednesday night. We were all there for an impromptu night out, enjoying Mayhem’s set. If you haven’t see Mayhem do his thing on Wednesdays, you should make a point to catch his dubstep/crunk sets. Bananas!

Set It Off: Farbod Kokabi

December 16th, 2009 by Larry

farbod_kokabi.jpg

Name:
Farbod Kokabi

Aka:
Farzad Moghaddam

Website:
www.letsgetboring.com
www.geographic-north.com
www.armchairmedia.com

Where are you from?
The upper West Side?

Who do you work for?
I’m a senior designer at Armchair, co-owner of Geographic North.

What are your Current Project(s)?
Wrapping up work on an upwardly human expose of pedantry and sophistication for the College Board.

Furthermore, Geographic North in 2010 is Windy & Carl, Mountains, Paul Duncan, Charles Atlas, Au Revoir Simone, Christopher Willits, The Papercuts, Rameses III and perhaps more. The plot thickens as our wallets do.

Lastly, I am heavily invested in recording an album with some men of talent.

Who would you love to work with?
The people who are the best at what they do are all dicks.

If you had to give all your sneakers away to charity except for one pair, which ones would you keep?
It’s less that I own a pair of sneakers and more that I wouldn’t give anything to charity.

What’s on your iPod right now?
I have two ipods. One I keep for myself and one filled with Bon Jovi that’s meant to be stolen.

What’s your Favorite ATL food?
$12 sandwiches from Star Provisions

What’s your Favorite ATL hangout?
Trader Vic’s. My fondest memories of Atlanta reside there.

What are your Pet Peeves?
The ever judgmental eye of old people.

Shout outs?
Armchair brethren and parents.

Set It Off: Will Scruggs

December 2nd, 2009 by Larry

will_scruggs.jpg

Name:
Will Scruggs

Aka:
CC Booker III

Website:
www.willscruggs.com

Where are you from?
Born in ATL - raised in Raleigh, NC

Who do you work for?
Myself… I’m a saxophonist, singer, and band leader. I also freelance as a hired gun sax man, teach some private lessons, and I’m sponsored by Jupiter Saxophones.

What are your Current Project(s)?
I have two projects of my own - Will Scruggs Jazz Fellowship and CC Booker III feat. Will Scruggs. You can find me around town with KINGSIZED, Cadillac Jones, Lloyd’s Rocksteady Review, and the Soulphonics w/Ruby Velle. I also play in a horn section called the FunderHorns… we’ve recorded with Natalie Cole, Dallas Austin, Cee-Lo and Jermaine Dupri, among others.

Who would you love to work with?
Wow… although I’m a jazz specialist I love many different kinds of music, and I’d love to get outside my genre a bit. Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon are a couple of my biggest musical heroes who are still active. I’d also love to collaborate with someone like Bela Fleck, just from a standpoint of pure creativity of sound. When I was a kid my favorite band was The New Grass Revival (Bela Fleck, John Cowan, Sam Bush). I got to play and record with Cowan this year (he’s appearing on my next CD) but I’ve never met Sam or Bela.

If you had to give all your sneakers away to charity except for one pair, which ones would you keep?
Wow, that’s tough. I ran a PR in the ING Georga Marathon last year in a pair of brown on brown New Balance ZIPs. Definitely the most stylish running shoes I’ve ever owned, plus there’s the sentimental value.

What’s on your iPod right now?
I’m listening to the soundtrack from Rosemary’s Baby… some crazy stuff. Also, Random Abstract by Branford Marsalis and American Song by Andy Bey.

What’s your Favorite ATL food?
Miss Anne’s World Famous Ghetto Burger. Or the smoked wings at Fox Bros. And my really guilty pleasure is Wing and Philly on the corner of Moreland and Memorial (I’ve gotta eat greasy after a long run).

What’s your Favorite ATL hangout?
Blue Frog Cantina dollar tacos - Mon/Tues in East ATL.  Or Churchill Grounds on weekends.

What are your Pet Peeves?
Ankle Tendonitis. The BCS. Glenn Beck, Hannity, Rush, and similar haters. Unexpected traffic (it’s not so bad if you’re ready for it, like at rush hour).

Shout outs?
CC Booker CD release party Friday Feb. 26th at Eddie’s Attic. Book it!

Gallery Group Atlanta Presents: Big Boi

big_boi_425.jpg

Recently, I was contacted by Brian Francis from GalleryGroupAtlanta.com as he wanted to introduce myself and our readers to a new events venue that’s planning on making waves in the Atlanta music scene. They’re kicking things off at the appropriately named Gallery at King Plow this Friday, November 27th with a HUGE concert featuring Big Boi, Clipse, Yelawolf, and DJ Mayhem.

Stay tuned to our twitter feed (@WeAreTheProcess) to win a pair of free tickets to the show!

I felt it was important to interview Brian about the The Gallery at King Plow. Hopefully this’ll give everyone some perspective on what’s in store for our city’s scene in the near future. Read the interview after the jump! Read the rest of this entry »

Hank Richardson: ADC Grandmaster

November 4th, 2009 by Larry

hank_larry.jpg
Sweet stickers Hank! photo by Roger Wong

Congrats to Portfolio Center’s, Hank Richardson, for being the recipient of The Art Director’s Club’s Grandmaster Award. Hank is an amazing teacher and mentor to anyone looking to have a career in design. However, I’m not really grasping what the term “grandmaster” really means here. Maybe it means Hank gets black tees and John Lennon spectacles for life?

Seriously though, (I think I can speak for most people who have gone through the Portfolio Center curriculum), Hank has been one of the most influential figures in my life. I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life until I randomly met Hank one day. After talking with him for several hours, I decided to take a risk, leave my job, and go to school at Portfolio Center.

Over the next few years, I was frequently subjected to his unorthodox teaching style which included 6am classes, weekend classes, marathon 12 hour classes, and the destruction of countless sketchbooks. I learned a tremendous amount from him on how to work hard, work smart, develop concepts, talk to clients, draft logos, work with type, and most importantly, believe in my abilities. He even invited me to return to Portfolio Center to teach a class of my own. I’m now teaching the class that I always wanted to take while I was at PC, Music Industry/Album Cover Design, and I’m having a blast doing so.

The above photo of Hank and I was taken by a classmate, Roger Wong, a few years ago when I was working with a live client on wine bottle designs while I was still a student. I have Hank to thank for setting up that experience, guiding me through the initial stages of the project, and letting me fly on my own. That bro totally changed my life!

Atlanta Hawks Alternate Jersey Confirmed

October 25th, 2009 by Larry

hawks_alternate_confirmed.jpg

The Hawks revealed their new alternate jersey today at AtlantaStationz (Atlantic Station) at their “Paint the Town Red” event/pep rally. As we wished so dearly, it was pretty much exactly as we envisioned it months ago. YAY! I can’t wait to get a #27 Pachulia Authentic jersey, but it might take a few weeks for them to be available. Either way, I’m very excited that one of our local teams will be repping ATL hard on their jerseys.

As a cool side note, I was able to speak with Jamal Crawford at the event. Our conversation went like this:

Me: “Jamal!”
JC: “What’s up?”
Me: “I drafted you to my fantasy team yesterday”
JC: “You won’t be disappointed…”
Me: “Thanks bro, have a good season!”
