Yaari.com Identity

December 8th, 2008 by Larry

Yaari.com is a social networking site that connects young people through questions about Indian entertainment media. They came to Epidemk Coalition needing an identity package as well as some web-design consulting. Much of the Yaari.com community is located overseas with dial-up connections, so the challenges posed in the web design process require the site to be lightweight and easy to use while remaining young and vibrant. Now that the logo is done, we’ll start jamming on the look and feel of the site in the coming days.

Jorge Menes Holiday Cards

December 7th, 2008 by Larry

Epidemik Coalition resident photographer, Jorge Menes, commissioned our former intern/illustrator E. Charrow to draw his holiday cards. I really like how the watercolors interplay with the line art. If you were nice to Jorge this year, you’ll probably get one of these in the mail.

Check them out individually after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

Crystal Gravy Stickers

December 7th, 2008 by Larry

My buddy Logan, the drummer for Chi-town’s Crystal Gravy, sent me this iPhone photo yesterday as the stickers I worked on with his band arrived in time for their big weekend show. Don’t be surprised if you start seeing these babies all over Chicago’s hot spots.

Jamie Hopper Photography Website

December 2nd, 2008 by Larry

This week, we’re wrapping-up a photography website for Jamie Hopper, Atlanta’s newest photography phenom. She came to EC looking to present her online portfolio in an “outside-the-box” way and she was totally open to our crazy ideas (dream client!). Over the past few days, Ted and I developed a way to let good photography speak for itself by complementing a simple/transparent/intuitive navigation handle with rich, full-screen photos. The website should be up later this week, so stay tuned!

Special Delivery: The Joneses

December 1st, 2008 by Larry

Our good friends at The Joneses were thoughtful enough to send us a box of goodies for the holidays. I’ve personally been a fan of the maroon J hat for a long time and I’m happy to be wearing it as I write this entry. I like The Joneses’ bold statements with the use of simple graphics throughout their line. Definitely a quality product from good people. Big shout out to Aaron and the rest of the crew in Charlotte, Atlanta, & Chicago.

The Making Of: Standard Lenox Square

November 25th, 2008 by Larry

Here are some photos from the past month showcasing the murals we did for the Standard Lenox Square store interior. It’s interesting to look back at the store without all the grass, racks, and clothes. There are some different photos over on their blog as well.

Check out the photos after the jump.

Black Friday Air Force 1

November 24th, 2008 by Larry

This might be the only reason to wake up early on Black Friday. Sneakerhead extraordinaire, DJ Clark Kent, collaborated with Nike on this Air Force 1 sneaker that comes out this Friday.

“So I went to the fabric library, picked the prime suspects and went to work on the design,” said Clark Kent. “The end result…Something Black, Luxurious & Fly, and FRESH!!!! What better way to start the holiday shopping season?!?!”

Now I understand that you can’t tell what they look like from the teaser photo above, but word on the street is that they’re the best-looking pair to drop this year. We’ll see…

If you happen to be near 21 Mercer in NYC, Concepts in Boston, or Shoe Gallery in Miami, you’ll have a chance to grab a pair. Apparently the launch will begin at 4am at the 21 Mercer store. Clark will then travel to Boston and deliver the 10am launch at Concepts. He will then fly to Miami for the 8pm delivery at Shoe Gallery. What a day! I hope he packs his “day-after-Thanksgiving” sandwiches.

No word on an Atlanta release just yet, but let’s keep our fingers-crossed.

Crystal Gravy - Greasy. Chicago. Funk.

November 21st, 2008 by Larry

One of my high school buddies, Logan, has been living in Chicago and playing drums in a funk band called Crystal Gravy for the past few years. Recently, we got together for a beer and identified the need for his band to utilize the merch table to generate funds. I quickly explained to him the power of branding and that his band needed an identity.

We decided the band’s logo needed to be fun and it needed to have the potential to sell a helluva-lot-of tee shirts. I’ve been jamming on logos for “Chicago’s Greasiest Funk Band” during my free time, bouncing ideas off Logan, and the above image is one of our favorite iterations so far. Crystal Gravy’s fans will be able to purchase stickers, tees, and albums with a tightened-up version of this mark very soon.

As a result of our recent design conversations, Logan mentioned that track #3 on their new album is going to be called Brown Gravy, Blue Diamond. Awesome.

Standard Lenox Square Store Preview

November 20th, 2008 by Larry

The cat’s out of the bag! The hush-hush project we’ve been working on for the past month is revealed. We’ve been helping Standard get their store ready for their big opening which is today. EC was enlisted to hand-paint their wall murals (inspired by Lichtenstein) on the store’s interior and we’ve also spent time helping with odds and ends to get the store up and running. This is one of my favorite projects we’ve done this past year and definitely another great 3D space to add to the portfolio. Thanks to the Standard family for choosing EC for their top-notch project.

Last night Standard Lenox Square had a special store preview for friends and family. Check out those photos after the jump. Oh, and we’ll post some “making of” photos in the next few days. For now, let’s enjoy the finished product…

Special Delivery: T BIRDS!

November 18th, 2008 by Ted

11.jpg

A package arrived today from Lancashire, UK. Trickett from tbirds.co.uk had contacted us the day-after we posted the I Bike ATL shirt on the EC blog, asking to set-up a trade of sorts: one of these shirts in trade for one of his hand-illustrated shirts. As designer of the shirt, I obliged and so ensued a race of the postal systems!

As far as I know, T Birds is run by this chap and has a similar fetishization of t-shirts as EC. It’s always nice to make friends doing similar things, even when they are across the world! Checkout Trickett’s blog post of his receipt of my shirt.

Queen City Trip

November 16th, 2008 by Larry

I just returned from a wild weekend in Charlotte, North Carolina which happens to be where our buddies The Joneses got their start and is the home to several of our friends with StreetLocal. While I was up there, I took some time to stop by one of my new, favorite shops called Black Sheep where I picked up this Limited Edition shop hoodie that’s apparently been in high-demand as of late. Thanks to Black Sheep’s owner, Josh, for recommending some great places to hang out. I’m looking forward to making the Queen City trip more often in ‘09. It seems like everywhere I go, there’s family.

Zooz Mobile

November 10th, 2008 by Georgios

zooz_mainimg_web.jpg

Zooz Mobile is one of the latest identity projects that we just completed. Zooz develops apps for iPhones and other cellular phones. If you have an iPhone, check em out. They have 2 apps available, ZoozBeat and ZoozControl. ZooZBeat is a gesture-based mobile musical studio, simple enough for non-musicians to immediately become musically expressive but rich enough for experienced musicians to push the envelope of mobile music creation. ZoozControl turns your iPhone and iPod touch into a game controller that senses your movements and uses the touch screen as buttons. Makes me wish I had an iPhone.

Positive Work

November 8th, 2008 by Larry

photo by Dan Hall of Decatur

I love helping local friends/family with small projects on a regular basis. It’s my way of constantly contributing to the greater good of our ATL-family. Yesterday I helped Standard with their window display for one of the my favorite lines, Benny Gold. Seriously, Benny Gold is hands-down the best designer in streetwear. I’m a huge fan, and his work influences my own. I think everyone out there could take a tip from Benny’s classic and timeless designs. Naturally, when Dan and Farshad at Standard hit me up about window displays, I jumped at the chance to help out. See more photos on the Standard blog.

While I’m on the topic of positive work… remember that special project we were hinting at a couple weeks ago? Answers coming soon. Stay tuned…

Photo Friday: Election Edition

November 7th, 2008 by Ross

I have to admit that I am really excited about the election results. I’m sure that most people out there are in the same boat as I am but to finally see something happen in politics that doesn’t frustrate the hell out of me is a truly satisfying feeling! Of course, it is now time to wait and see if PRESIDENT Obama can bring about the change he has been talking about his entire campaign.

That leads me to this weeks topic. Its pretty interesting to look at the way images work to influence people especially when it comes to a political stand point. With the rise of digital photography to the point that it is at and how demanding the internet can be for a constant update of content and images it has pushed photographers to create new and compelling images that have broken outside the box of normal (and in my opinion boring) photojournalism. If a candidate makes one wrong move and its captured on film it can change the face of the entire campaign. Since PRESIDENT Obama (I love the sound of that!) began his campaign almost two years ago there have been some amazing images of him working so hard to earn the votes that he did. This week I share a few of my favorites with you.

See more after the jump.

We have been wrapping up quite a few branding and website projects at the EC studio this month. As final tweaks roll-out the door, keep an eye out for some images and additions to the portfolio, including some exciting work for: Future Digital, LLC (NYC), Georgia Tech Center for Music Technology (Atlanta), ZooZ Mobile (Atlanta), MeanRed Productions (NYC) among others.

What has been common throughout all the projects is the open collaborations between the talent at EC.
