heavy_mojo_tee.jpg

Here’s a new tee that we designed for Heavy Mojo, a band that we recently just started working with. They will be on tour with Rehab this Fall and then later with Fishbone. This is Todd (Heavy Mojo’s Road Manager) holding up a fresh new tee that was dropped off right before their show Friday night. Keep a look out for future EC x HM tees.

Afternoon Tee

October 14th, 2008 by Larry

We recently took on a small identity/merch project for NY-based singer/songwriter Will McCranie. This afternoon, we received proofs of a simple one-color graphic tee design based on an illustration by Georgios. It’s nice to get back to our roots every once in awhile and have some fun with limited-run pieces that have heart and soul.

MODA Holiday Cards

October 13th, 2008 by Georgios

I know it’s still too early to start talking about the holidays but Museum of Design Atlanta has just released the 2008 Holiday cards for sale on their online store. I designed a card for MODA and so did many other local designers like Clint Zeagler of Pecan Pie Couture and R. Land.

A lil side note, I was at the Brick Store Pub (Best Fish N Chips in ATL) yesterday with some friends and noticed a very interesting piece by R. Land called Loss Cat. Check it out.

You can purchase the Holiday cards here.
I believe you can also purchase them from the MODA store located at the museum.

A portion of the card sale proceeds will benefit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

Set It Off: Evereman

October 7th, 2008 by Larry

Name:
EVEREMAN

Aka:
Caterwaul, Clawed Reality

Website:
www.evereman.com

Where are you from?
Appalachian foothills Shelby, North Carolina

Who do you work for?
I’ll tell ya some jobs I’ve had: Glass Bottom Boat Skipper, Chimney Sweep, Apple Picker (Wisconsin), Movie Projectionist, Short Order Cook, Tilt-a-whirl operator, Tree Planter (Texas), Baker, Midnight Shift Sprout Waterer, Carpenter, Late night DJ at an automated radio station (not much to do, I used to spray paint the cockroaches in the breakroom. Those rascals look good when they scatter all Day Glow), Made belts out of Alligator skin (ATL) a while, I was a Bean Man at The Frij, Hotel Maid, Janitor at McDonalds. I have been self employed for a while now, Designer of Goods. I teach part-time to help fuel my art with cash money. Actually, I have three distinct artist personalities that I split time with. I prefer to keep my Enonymity so as to be able to do my E-thing UN-hindered.
EVEREMAN is not about me, it’s about all of us. I feel sure that whatever people have in mind about EVEREMAN, it’s more intriguing than I am. EVEREMAN is a beautiful idea, it is not an individual.

What are your Current Project(s)?
I’m painting some orange and black Hallerween EVEREMAN tiles for the season, Got my eye on a nice, visible, accessible bill board that screams out for EVEREMAN, just printed some skate decks with Danger Press, some group shows coming up. Also, I am in the market for some chunks of busted concrete, lots of it. Anybody know of a pile of busted concrete chunks laying around, let me know there whereabouts, will ya? Recently finished refurbishing a broken city bench E-style then replaced it for folks to use at a Marta stop.

Who would you love to work with?
Well, I gotta tell you, I am enjoying answering these questions with you, Larry. I’d love to work with any good-hearted ATLien.

If you had to give all your sneakers away to charity except for one pair, which ones would you keep?
I got a sweet pair of black leather Converse hightops that they don’t make any more. I’m trying to take extra good care of them now.

What’s on your iPod right now?
Woody Guthrie, The Carter Family, The Black Lips, Vietnam,  Ralph Stanley, The Upsetters, The Delmore Brothers, Anna Kramer, Judy Chicago,  Jimmie Rodgers,  High Grade Ganja Anthems Vol. 2. Ennio Moricone.

What’s your Favorite ATL food?
My favorite chef, hands down, is Linton Hopkins. I still haven’t had one of his 10 pm limited edition hamburgers, but I’m gonna git me one. On a daily basis there is Fellini’s Pizza, Willy’s Mexican, Carol Street Cafe, Six Feet Under, Figo, West Egg, Noni’s, Brick Store (did you say beer?)

What’s your Favorite ATL hangout?
My back porch, come on over.

Punch Out Trailer

October 5th, 2008 by Larry

Ok, so I wouldn’t normally post something like this, but I must say that Nintendo has “nailed it” as far as branding is concerned for their Wii-iteration of the infamous Punch Out game. Upon viewing this video, I nearly lost it. Seriously, they couldn’t have done a better job modernizing a classic. The characters, storyline, and even the theme song have tipped their hat at the original game (which used to bear Mike Tyson’s name) and have been carefully re-rendered to the glee of twenty-somethings worldwide.

Imagine how easily a bunch of suits in a boardroom could have found a reason to re-concept the whole game. I’m glad they didn’t. Sometimes you don’t need a bunch of d-bags telling you what to do. Sometimes it’s fine to follow the old adage, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. For Nintendo’s sake, it’s safe to say that this game will make a killing in 2009, as 80’s nostalgia should be enough to sell this game alone.

I wonder if the password, 007 373 5963, will do anything…

Icons Redesigned [Part 4]

October 1st, 2008 by Larry

As my last and final report on the Nike Sportswear 21 Mercer Store in NYC, I’ve saved the best for last. My personal favorites, the Nike Dunk and the Air Force 1. You can find me in Dunks practically every day. I took the above photo because this is no ordinary Nike Dunk. It is a seamless sneaker with a colored octagon pattern created in homage for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Since 1985, the Dunk has served its owners as a basketball shoe, a skate shoe, a vintage shoe, a piece of history, and a work of art. For its rebirth under the Nike Sportswear banner, an ergonomic molded ankle collar, spring-loaded stay-put tongue and a reinforced upper with skived edges makes this iconic piece even easier to love.

Find out more about the re-designed Dunk & Air Force 1 after the jump.

Take A Breather in Decatur

September 30th, 2008 by Georgios

breather_squid_web_a.jpg

On Oct. 11th, Breather design conference takes place at Agnes Scott College in Decatur. There will be numerous presenters from around the nation such as Tali Krakowsky, Director of Experience Design for Imaginary Forces, and award-winning creative director and designer, Jeff Boortz.

Breather brings together artists, architects, interior designers, graphic designers, landscape architects and other professionals concerned with design and its effects. This multidisciplinary approach to the subject also attracts students from design programs in the area. The unique benefit comes from the interdisciplinary cross-pollination in both the audience and the presenters. Members of the design community are invited to “take a Breather in Decatur,” to be stimulated outside their usual constraints, and to benefit from the ideas and practices of other design disciplines.

Breather had a call for artwork this year. Any medium was acceptable, you just had to include a yellow balloon. I created this small illustration for the event. They will have art submissions displayed at the conference.

Register for the conference here.

Icons Redesigned [Part 3]

September 30th, 2008 by Larry

First off, I want you to check out this amazing stop-motion video of the Nike Cortez playfully tumbling through the decades. The video shows the Cortez (designed by Bill Bowerman in 1967) evolving in front of our eyes! As you can see there have been hundreds of colorways and materials used throughout the years, but this sneaker’s construction has stayed remarkably the same until now. The current Cortez looks the same as before but it has been designed with comfort in mind. The minor adjustments are simple molding at the ankle and improved cushioning in the footbed.

Secondly, here’s a garment that everyone is familiar with…

Today, we re-appropriated The Wall to review some logos that Georgios and I have been jamming on for the past few days. Thanks to everyone who has sent in funny, inspiring, and seizure-causing animated GIFs via The Wall. This project has been so fun for us over the past couple months and we’d love you keep it alive by emailing your images to .

Icons Redesigned [Part 2]

September 22nd, 2008 by Larry

Today, I want to highlight a very unique article of clothing. This is the AW 77 track hoody that’s been redesigned for the Nike Sportswear line. 1977 was the year the hoody was created, and it gets it’s namesake from Athletics West, Nike’s elite track and field club of a bygone era. This garment has been worn by legendary runners such as Pre Fontaine and Alberto Salazar.

The redesigned/modern-day version of this hoody is a collaboration between Nike and Loopwheeler of Japan, who are known for making the best fleece in the world. They’re one of the only manufacturers in the world that still makes cotton fabric on loopwheel machines. I heard they only make enough fabric to make eight of these hoodies a day. Talk about Limited Edition!

Find out more after the jump.

Icons Redesigned [Part 1]

September 16th, 2008 by Larry

Air Max 90 Flywire

One of the greatest aspects of attending the 21 Mercer store opening launch party a few weeks back was being one of the first to see Nike’s icons redesigned for the new Nike Sportswear line. I’ll focus on 2 of my favorites here, the Air Max 90 Flywire & the Flywire Windrunner.

Designers at Nike started with the original Air Max platform, but increased the interior padding and ankle molding. With newly skived edges and unexpected upper materials the new Air Max 90 Flywires are a quintessential blend of Nike’s past, present and future. A key design element here is the patented Flywire technology that allows for super-lightweight construction. You’ve already seen Flywire earlier this year in the Beijing Olympics and particularly on Kobe Bryant, in the Hyperdunk.

See more photos of the AM 90 Flywire and Flywire Windrunner after the jump.

PROCESS Fitteds & Truckers

September 1st, 2008 by Larry

PROCESS Fitted by Estate LA [Grey/Black/Teal]

We’re proud to show you some of our caps that we’re offering to buyers at Agenda (taking place this week). We have two colorways of fitted caps that we’ve created in conjunction with our friends at Estate LA (America’s favorite handmade caps, made right in the heart of Los Angeles). We’re also offering a trucker hat in three colorways. The decision to create a trucker hat was a no-brainer. Georgia summers are unforgiving when you’re outside poppin’ wheelies… you need breathable mesh and a spongy sweatband in your cap.

21 Mercer: Nike Sportswear Bespoke

August 24th, 2008 by Larry

You can only do this one place in the world, and I can’t wait to return to 21 Mercer Street in New York with the EC crew so we can participate. Nike Sportswear Bespoke is a new and innovative appointment-based design experience that gives you the opportunity to work one-on-one with Nike Designers to flex your creative muscle and customize a pair of one-of-a-kind sneakers.

I know that you’re thinking this is the same as Nike iD, but it is actually much different. For example, Georgios and I had the opportunity to customize some Dunks at the Nike iD Studio at 255 Elizabeth in NYC last year and we found a set color palette and predetermined material choices. However, during your appointment at Nike Sportswear Bespoke, you’ll be able to choose everything from the the color of your outsole and laces, make color-blocking distinctions on different areas of your sneakers, and choose from an extremely large database of materials.

Reach out to the guys and gals at 21 Mercer and get yourself an appointment to customize a pair of Air Force 1’s. Who knows what’ll be next on the list? I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the Air Max 1 but more than likely it’ll be another one of the icons, the Dunk.

Check out examples of the endless possibilities after the jump.

21 Mercer: The Space

August 21st, 2008 by Larry

Sandy Bodecker - Nike Vice President of Design

This one’s for all the architecture and design junkies out there… I’m in NYC for the official launch of the Nike Sportswear line, and I just got out of a sneak peek of the flagship store at 21 Mercer Street. Tonight there will be a huge block party starting in about 15 minutes that marks one of the biggest launches ever for Nike’s lifestyle gear. I hear that some big names will be attending.

Since I was one of the first people to spend time in the space, I wanted to share some immediate imagery with all the EC readers out there. There are a lot more topics to touch on, but for now, enjoy this unique store/studio space.

The interior of the store is made up of actual materials taken from basketball gymnasiums from the 5 boroughs in New York. This exemplifies the “mashing up” of sport and culture, according to Sandy Bodecker (Nike Vice President of Design aka The Man Behind Nike SB) who you see here jammin’ on his Blackberry at 21 Mercer.

Check out the other photos after the jump. And scroll to the bottom for a special surprise that I’ll elaborate on later.
I’m going to the party now, but I’ll have more to show really soon.

Check out the show cards we made for MINT Gallery’s upcoming art show, reMIXT. If you’re lucky enough to get one of these let us know and we’ll send you a surprise.

reMIXT will also feature a local music raffle where one dollar tickets could win you your choice of music and swag provided by local bands.

MINT has put together a playlist of its favorite local music to get you in the mood. Check out mintgalleryremixt.muxtape.com and spread the word.

Apparatus ATL Update

August 10th, 2008 by Larry

Georgios and I met with Dosa Kim and company today to discuss the plans for Apparatus ATL. I think this project was created because our city has a unique mindset where we embrace our own at all costs and subconsciously disregard everything else. What I gathered is that Apparatus ATL is a culture project that brings together Atlanta creative juggernauts through a presentation of art and sculptures, leading to an epic, city-wide celebration of Atlanta’s very own creative culture population. We’ll be doing project consulting and planning for this big vision until the launch party, still TBA. This has the potential to be a big marketing tool, platform, and guide for anyone that aims to speak to Atlanta’s movers and shakers without being disregarded immediately. Really amazing stuff in the works here…
