On March 28, 2009, the youth of our city will capture the images and stories very seldom heard or rarely ever seen in the 2nd Annual Through Their Eyes Art Gallery hosted at Octane Coffee Bar & Lounge.
This year 20 Atlanta Public School students will come together to document their life, schools and community. Using their creative abilities and interpretation, they will capture their realities through the lens of Holga and film cameras.
Epidemik Coalition has worked with some of these students through Essential2life’s PUSH program. They create some amazing work with what little they have. It will be worth your time to stop by Octane and check out their documentary photographs of their everyday life. Join us in supporting Atlanta’s next generation of creatives.

From time to time, the crew at Standard will ask us to design flyers for their upcoming parties, events, and in-store appearances/performances. This week, we’re excited that the event involves hip-hop-blog-friendly rapper, Wale. He will be hanging out with us from 5 to 7pm before his ATL show later that evening. Dubbed, a “Listening Party”, the only thing I could imagine we’d be graced with hearing are tracks from his super-hyped and anticipated LP, Attention Deficit. The first single, Chillin’ featuring Lady Ga Ga, is poppy, nostalgic, and full of name-drops and product mentions. It’s definitely going to be a summer jam (whether you want it to be or not).

Last Friday, we arrived in Charlotte about 3 hours before the Laced Up show at The Forum with our custom custom PROCESS Chukka boots in hand. Just enough time to drop them off with the show’s coordinators, grab a bite to eat, and get back to the show. Thanks a million to our Queen City friends for showing us around town, giving us the VIP treatment, and for the endless hospitality.
Shout outs: Radar for letting us crash at his pad and for the endless shenanigans (videos will surface on the internet), A.C., Camila with Blu Magazine, Myk with D.M.N., Shane, BLNGxBDGT, Bobby and Niche, Josh and Black Sheep, Ryan O’Malley for the sweet prints and the basement tour of the Davidson College archives, and everyone else we met or forgot to mention.

Part of the our crew will be heading up to Charlotte for tonight’s Laced Up sneaker event at The Forum. We were given this pair of Vans Chukka boots a few weeks back and the first thing we had to do was mask the soles with tape before we sprayed the canvas sneakers with the color we wanted. I don’t want to give away what our custom sneaker looks like, so I’ll leave you with a hint. It was inspired by the Bombera illustration Georgios made for the PROCESS line. If you’re in Charlotte, come out tonight for the big reveal. Everyone else, stay tuned because we’ll have photos from the show and more making-of shots very soon.

Here are some selects from the PROCESS Launch Circuit events at El Bar that took place from 10pm to 3am last Friday. I’ve never seen so many people packed into the EL at once. It’s great to see the right people in our city have our back! THANK YOU ATL!
There are a ton of photos from the night that I wasn’t able to post. To see the full photoset, head over to John Ellis’ website here.

Here are some selects from the PROCESS Launch Circuit events at Standard Peachtree that took place from 8pm to 10pm last Friday. This is where the party really started to pick up. Once again, thanks to John Ellis for providing his photography services. Also, thanks to ATL’s own, Whynatte, for sponsoring our event(s) with refreshments.

Here are some selects from the PROCESS Launch Circuit events at Standard Lenox that took place from 6pm to 8pm last Friday. It was great to see lots of friends and family passing through this location right after work. Thanks so much to John Ellis for providing his photography services. Our good friend and local photographer, Joe Martinez, made it out to the 3rd part of PROCESS Launch Circuit last Friday night at El Bar. He sent me this photo he took of designer/wood-fabricator, Josh Tuminella, holding up a custom skateboard he had created as a gift to our crew. Thanks to both of you guys! This is just a small sampling of the photos we’ve amassed from the other night. Check out the rest of Joe’s selects after the jump. Tons of new shots from both Standard locations and more El Bar photos coming tomorrow.

Last Friday Georgios and I participated in a portfolio review for IDSA (Industrial Designers Society of America) at Georgia Tech. We reviewed books and gave feedback to industrial design students from SCAD Savannah and Georgia Tech as working professionals. It was great to see the work from up-and-coming students and it was definitely a first for me, as my Portfolio Center background has accustomed me to being on the other side of the table, receiving feedback. We ran into some of our good friends such as Fredo from Atlanta Pecha Kucha and Kevin Byrd of Armchair Media as well. Thanks to IDSA for having us!

So last week, as Larry reported, we went to the Nike Black History Month Poetry Contest and saw some really amazing kids. I shot the event and got some really great photographs and you got a bit of a sneak peek last week and this week I decided to share a few more of the images with you. Hope you enjoy them!

The PROCESS team has been asked to participate in a custom sneaker show called Laced Up in Charlotte next month. Yesterday, an unmarked box containing these white canvas Vans Chukka Boots arrived at our studio downtown.
-Anyone have any ideas what we should do to these puppies?
-Anyone know how to transfer graphics to canvas?
-Anyone want to ride up to QC and party with us the weekend of the 12th?
Leave a comment or .
Stay tuned, as we’ll post “process photos” as soon as we decide on a concept/direction.

Take a good look at Melissa Cullens and Reena Karia. They are the superpowers behind Relish, Atlanta’s newest and creative events company. Currently, they are students at our post-grad alma mater(s), Portfolio Center, and they’ve had the knack for throwing kick-ass parties over the past year. They soon realized that they could turn their talents into a reality. Not only are they great at working with 3D spaces, but they also have an amazing talent for strategy and design. They have been carefully planning our local events for the 03.06.09 launch of the PROCESS line and I can’t say enough about how their efforts. Make sure you remember these ladies as they’ll be the ones in the know for complimentary drinks and getting on the guest list at El Bar on 03.06.09. More event details coming soon. Relish’s website should be up soon at thisisrelish.com. Stay on it.

In case some of you reading this right now didn’t know a very special guest is coming to EL BAR this upcoming Tuesday night, Ricky Powell aka The Rickster. He is based out of New York City and has taken some of the most famous images of people like The Beastie Boys, Run-DMC, and LL Cool J. You’ve more than likely seen his work on albums like Paul’s Boutique and publications like Mass Appeal. His grainy black and white style has been an influence to many street photographers out there. He’s coming to town to kick off a new night at EL BAR called Waxchaotics this Tuesday the 24th. I’m not completely sure about the format just yet, but I believe people will be able to bring their own vinyl to play out at the event. For more information check out the EL BAR website and for a little more information on Ricky Powell check out his interview here.

Contest winner, Kedarius Peoples, on stage performing in the GameChangers “Beat The Odds” tee designed by Epidemik Coalition’s Georgios Saliaris. Photo by Ross Martin
Atlanta high school students got together this morning to compete in a spoken word showdown on the subject of GameChangers in celebration of Black History Month. GameChanger’s emcee & “voice of Atlanta”, DJ Greg Street, introduced speaker Divine Bradley who came with a message to inspire the youth in attendance to follow their dreams. Georgios, Ross, and myself were really impressed with his presence and ability to motivate.
Soon afterward, the spoken word contestants assumed the stage while their student counterparts cheered them on with fervor. I was blown away with their performances and passion for changing-the-game with subject matter ranging from family members who inspire them, Rosa Parks, Correta Scott King, and Barack Obama’s ideal of change for America.
A panel of celebrity judges included Angelo Taylor (4-time Olympic Gold Medalist) and current Atlanta Falcons players Curtis Lofton and Jamaal Anderson. They crowned Kedarius Peoples of Cedar Grove High School (Senior) as the 1st place winner. He took home a $1,000 scholarship to pursue his dreams and a pair of the exclusive Nike Sportswear Black History Month Air Force 1 sneakers that were designed and inspired by the rich history of African American culture.
It’s great to see Nike’s involvement in the Atlanta community and as always, they do it right and they do it BIG.
EC’s own, Ross Martin, took some great shots of the event. Check out our selects from today after the jump. More to come in next week’s Photo Friday…

The good folks at Vimby.com stopped by our studio in downtown ATL the other day to learn more about Epidemik Coalition and PROCESS. It was a great experience for all of us to speak about our work on camera. I’m excited to see the finished segment. More details on that coming soon…

DJ Klever kept the crowd pumped for hours-on-end last night at El Bar. Afterwards, he was nice enough to let me catch-up with him for a portrait outside “Atlanta’s Best Kept Secret” despite his exhaustion from the evening’s events. Thanks Klever!

Our monthly El Bar party is tonight and we’re proud to announce that world-famous DJ Klever will be trading off on the 1’s & 2’s with resident DJ, Cristo Disco. If you wanna see Klever in action, check this out See you out tonight!

Our friends at Blu Magazine in Charlotte launched their 5th issue that also coincided with their 1st Anniversary Party. ATL’s own, Prince Presto, was invited to DJ the event and he proudly rocked his PROCESS Dirty Bird tee that will be release in March. Check out more photos of Presto at the Blu Magazine party after the jump.

Here’s a look inside the PROCESS gift bags from El Bar’s New Years Eve party. Inside you’ve got the new El Bar tee (designed by Georgios of EC & PROCESS where he remixed the logo by Steve Deniro), a sticker pack from The Joneses, a StreetLocal Gentleman comb, the new Frank magazine, Scion socks, and various mixtapes including remixes from ATL’s own, Rob Wonder, Klever, & Treasure Fingers. Not pictured are the 2009 V.I.P./No Cover keychains that were also handed out at the door. Thanks to everyone who came out and made it an extra-special evening!
