Atlanta’s New Nike Store Preview

October 29th, 2008 by Larry

You get this card after your Nike iD session. See my creation after the jump.

I just got home from a tour at the new Nike Store at Lenox here in Atlanta that opens tomorrow [10.30.08]. I think that most ATLiens that love hands-on design are going to respond positively to the NikeiD and T Bar offerings that make this store very worthwhile. See everything after the jump.

Atlanta’s New Nike Store Teaser

October 27th, 2008 by Larry

You’ve probably heard or noticed that Nike will be opening a new flagship store in Atlanta this Thursday. I’ll be on a “behind the scenes” store preview Wednesday afternoon [10/29/08] and I’m going to post photos on Wednesday afternoon/evening so everyone can see the store before it opens on Thursday.

Earlier this year, I attended the Nike Sportswear store opening celebrations at 21 Mercer in New York City and I’m interested to see what special elements they’ve incorporated from 21 Mercer into ATL’s newest gem!

THE WALL @ LE FLASH

October 26th, 2008 by Ted

thewall.jpg

Friday night at 7pm marked the start of LE FLASH in Castleberry Hill. Although some light precipitation moved into the city, attendance was considerably high. During my time attending LE FLASH, I grabbed some photos of people interacting with the installation of THE WALL from both inside and street-side of Art House Gallery. The external experience of THE WALL is the ultimate use of the concept, as it is from the vantage point of the sidewalk that it becomes a public community billboard. THE WALL had its night of glory, and from the looks of the image archive, got quite a bit of use. It’s great to see this idea come to life!

Some other interesting installations and street performances can be seen after the jump. Thanks again to Steve and Shane at Art House Co-op for being hosts to THE WALL for the night. If anyone would like to be hosts of your own version of THE WALL, let us know!

8 Ball & MJG - Clap On [feat. Yung Joc]

October 19th, 2008 by Larry

Georgios and I were lucky to score some press credentials to the Rehab show at the Tabernacle this weekend. One of the opening acts was none other than hip-hop legends, 8 Ball & MJG. I was able to snap a few decent photos from the evening that I’ll post really soon. But first, here’s one of the tracks 8 Ball & MJG rocked with a live band!

We got together with ThoughtMarker art blog to create a graphic tee that represents Atlanta to the fullest. We chose ATL-based artists, businesses, streetwear labels, galleries, and individuals that we mutually love working with to be represented on this tee. We’ll be giving them away for FREE at El Bar, Atlanta on Thursday, October 16th around 11:30pm. All you have to do is show up and say “Dirty Bird” to score your very own PROCESS x ThoughtMarker tee.

Thanks to King Screen for helping with this project’s production.

Chester French In-Store @ Standard

October 7th, 2008 by Larry

We just got back from Chester French’s in-store performance at Standard. They’re in Atlanta for their second time ever to rock the stage with N.E.R.D., Common, and Janelle Monae tomorrow night at the Tabernacle. Their first visit was spent at Jermaine Dupri’s studio and Magic City, as they mentioned during their acoustic performance tonight. Thanks to Ross Martin of EC for taking photos tonight. If you want to see the rest of the batch, head over to Standard’s blog. But first, check out their new single, She Loves Everybody.

Vote Early

October 6th, 2008 by Ted

2.jpg

This photo was taken in the voting office at 141 Pryor Street in downtown Atlanta this afternoon, as I waited to cast my first-ever vote for an elected official in the United States. It couldn’t have been more satisfying. Well, actually, I was expecting to use a stylus and punch paper ‘chads’ out of a voting card, but these days its all done through fancy touchscreen terminals. Despite ‘tapping’ in my vote, the buzz in the room was inspiring. It’s clear, people want change.

In any case, Georgios was able to drop off all the forms of voters who registered at our EL BAR Registration Night event last week. Those folks will be set to vote on the November 4th national election day. Viva la vote!

Atlanta Lives

October 4th, 2008 by Ted

img_3356.jpg

After a week of concern about the state of the country, this morning was spent enjoying the hopeful local life of Atlanta’s downtown area on foot.

It began with a morning walk to my new favorite local coffee joint, Tilt in Castleberry Hill, across the bridge from our Mitchell Street studio. After a series of random happenstances, including heading to an ATM in Five Point for some cash, I stumbled upon some friendly people downtown along Auburn Ave. heading to the Sweet Auburn Heritage Festival. Music, food, crafts, and local folk abound. There was also a large presence of Obama merchandise and Voters Registration volunteers.

After talking with one of the registration volunteers, I learned that although she had only registered 1 person by that point during the day, everyone else she had talked to had already been registered. It was to those individuals, and everyone else reading this, that this worker encouraged to vote early. That’s right, you can vote early and avoid the long lines on election day! Head down to the third floor of the Fulton County Government building at 141 Pryor Street to vote early and/or register (and come back the next day to vote) if you haven’t already. More photos of my day after the jump, including a GIANT chess game at Five Point’s Woodruff Park, an impromptu photoshoot on Auburn Ave. with models, and some graffiti. Downtown Atlanta lives today.

Voter Registration Night at El Bar [Photos]

October 3rd, 2008 by Larry

It was great to see people enthusiastically registering to vote! People came out to discuss the Vice Presidential Debate and dance the night away. Here’s the unofficial “song of the night” as deemed by DJ Cristo Disco:

Voter Registration Night at El Bar [10.2.08]

October 2nd, 2008 by Larry

Click image to view large flyer.

Lately, everyone I’ve spoken to has been upset with the state of our country. Gas crises, the Dow plummeting, and banks calling it quits should be enough to scare any American. I’ll admit that I feel helpless and fearful of what’s to come. However, I’m not just going to sit around and complain while playing video games and eating Chik-Fil-A (that’s so last century). I’m afraid that too many young people would rather sit on their laurels and bitch than taking action. I’d like to be proven wrong…

After talking to Ted and Georgios for a week or so, we’ve decided to get together with our friends with El Bar, Standard, Streetlocal, Decatur Dan & Thoughtmaker to organize a Voter Registration Night at El Bar this Thursday [10.2.08]. Enough of us feel the urgency to incite people to fulfill their civil duty by voting for our next President. Here is your chance to do something!

***If this is your first time voting in Georgia, you need to bring a photocopy of your ID to register***

We’ll kick it off around 10:45pm on Thursday. We’ll have the registration forms ready to rock and DJ Cristo Disco will keep us entertained into the night.

Take A Breather in Decatur

September 30th, 2008 by Georgios

breather_squid_web_a.jpg

On Oct. 11th, Breather design conference takes place at Agnes Scott College in Decatur. There will be numerous presenters from around the nation such as Tali Krakowsky, Director of Experience Design for Imaginary Forces, and award-winning creative director and designer, Jeff Boortz.

Breather brings together artists, architects, interior designers, graphic designers, landscape architects and other professionals concerned with design and its effects. This multidisciplinary approach to the subject also attracts students from design programs in the area. The unique benefit comes from the interdisciplinary cross-pollination in both the audience and the presenters. Members of the design community are invited to “take a Breather in Decatur,” to be stimulated outside their usual constraints, and to benefit from the ideas and practices of other design disciplines.

Breather had a call for artwork this year. Any medium was acceptable, you just had to include a yellow balloon. I created this small illustration for the event. They will have art submissions displayed at the conference.

Register for the conference here.

Push Bowl Fundraiser

September 20th, 2008 by Georgios

n1303172412_115552_4425.jpg

This past Thursday, Essential2Life held their first ever PUSH Bowl fundraiser. PUSH is an experimental digital library and epicenter to foster and nurture urban youth creativity. E2L created PUSH after learning that inner-city teens want instruction in creative disciplines more than in any other set of skills or job training. After meeting Vince Hungate of E2L over the summer, Larry and I volunteered some of our time to teach less fortunate youth Photoshop. We hope to do it again this fall. If interested in volunteering your time or making a donation, visit Essential2Life.

It was a great event and I had the best team. On my team, the Beer team (we didn’t get to pick our own team name), was Steven Lambert (also a Push instructor) from Indigo Studios, Dowd Keith, Carrie Allen and Fabian Williams of Occasional Superstar. Check out Fabian’s art, especially the Big Boi portrait. Our friends from Matchstic were also there in their fresh track suits and tees. Thanks to Dowd for the photos.

Check out more photos after the jump.

Friends from Agenda: Lindsay from MapleXO

September 19th, 2008 by Larry

One of the most unique brands we discovered at Agenda was MapleXO from Portland, Oregon. The whole concept behind MapleXO is to create jewelry out of recycled skateboards in a completely un-tacky way. It’s very cool to see remnants of old skate graphics from years past and you can count the different layers of wood laminate used in the original board. The brands talented creator (and chocolate chip cookie baker), Lindsay Holmes, makes every piece by hand! Needless to say, no two pieces are alike, so what you get is totally one-of-a-kind. Very cool stuff.

Friends from Agenda: Jae & Steven w/ The Loots

September 10th, 2008 by Larry

We met Jae and Steven from The Loots outside of the The Sofia Hotel after the first day of Agenda. A casual conversation about the clothing industry led to stories of them being in the Korean Air Force and Israeli Military. Needless to say, they’re a bit older than we are and they have a lot of experience moving units on both coasts. It was great to pick their brains for a couple days and get some quality advice and encouragement from these guys who know the ins and outs of this fickle industry. Big ups to The Loots.

Friends from Agenda: Dylan from Edmond

September 7th, 2008 by Larry

I wanted to show everyone some of the cool people we met at Agenda this past week. First off is Dylan from Edmond. His line is really fun. Just the logo itself makes me feel like a kid again. Edmond is a collaborative effort put forth by Dylan and his buddy Tom DeLonge (Angels & Airwaves/Blink 182) where their main intent is to do something fun to give back to a lifestyle that brought them together years ago, skateboarding. Dylan also has the credit of being the original designer behind the brand Atticus. You probably have one of his old pieces in your closet! There are so many little details that I love about the Edmond line, especially the collectible and colorful vinyl dinosaur puzzle pieces that come in the hangtags of each garment. Head over to EdmondClothing.com to see what I’m talking about. I’ll introduce more of our new friends throughout this next week. So check back later!
