Medusa Armada Installation: Part 4

June 4th, 2008 by Larry

photos by Ross Martin

These are the final photos of our Medusa Armada Installation at Halo Lounge last Thursday. I hardly realized how quickly the evening went by between trying Halo’s signature “Dark & Stormy” drink and catching up with everyone who came out for support.

We’re looking forward to displaying alternate versions of Medusa Armada at more events and locations. If you guys know anyone at the Georgia Aquarium, let us know!

Check out a large version of Ross Martin’s photo of Medusa Armada after the jump.

“Pop Art at Halo” [May 29]

May 18th, 2008 by Larry

flyer by EC

Come out and show your support for your boys (& girl) at Pop Art at Halo on May 29th. We’re unveiling our Medusa Armada 3D installation that night. It’s nice that Halo Lounge realizes the impact of the creative community here in town and wants to help showcase our work. “Ultra Lounge” type places don’t usually host events for local artists but hopefully this will be the beginning of a trend here in ATL. I guess “design” is mainstream these days. Anyway, admission is free for everyone before 10PM.

Participating Artists:
Chris Hamer of Urbn Pop, Epidemik Coalition & Ted Ullrich, Ted Murphy of Spooky Toons, Jenny “Bunns” Young of Apprentice Diaries, Ashley Zeltzer of Cartoon Network, Andrew Bellury, Pierre Cerrato, Drew Dominey, Thom Foolery, Amanda Goodbread, Jennifer Henley, Damon Hooks, Stephanie Howard, Brett Thompson, Todd Redner, Dan Young & more.

Introducing: Jessica Tillyer

May 13th, 2008 by Larry

Jessica reminds me a lot of how Georgios and I went about our careers at Portfolio Center. She takes on as much as she can to gain valuable experiences. This past week, she took on freelance gigs, participated in two workshops, heard two speakers, made a paper dress for the MA 08 Launch Party, did homework for school, and helped us keep our operation afloat. She’ll be with us all summer with our weekly scheduling & concepting our apparel lookbook. Knowing her, she’ll probably take on more than that. Welcome Jessica!

If you want to find out more about Jessica Tillyer aka Violet Tiger, check out her blog at http://jessicatillyer.wordpress.com/

In other news, keep an eye out for music related updates coming from our boy, Yuri Majic (resident music curator), really soon.

Introducing: Ted Ullrich

May 5th, 2008 by Larry

Georgia Tech I.D. grad student, Ted Ullrich, is a man on a mission to stay busy this summer. He’s doing double-duty with us in addition to an internship with our pals at Armchair Media. If you’re around our studio at The Center for Design Study this summer, you’ll probably run into him. He’ll be helping us with all kinds of “outside-the-box” projects, including a possible art installation later this month. More details to come. For now, check out Ted Ullrich’s Portfolio Site.

Megan Huntz @ Gen Art’s Fresh Faces Annual Fashion Show

April 10th, 2008 by Georgios

Our girl, Megan Huntz, has been selected for Gen Art’s Fresh Faces in Fashion annual fashion show in Miami on April 12th, 2008. This event features 9 top emerging designers from New York, Miami and Atlanta. This high profile affair will draw over 1,000 guests to the Gansevoort South in South Beach, for a runway show staged under the stars and over the pool with a direct backdrop of the ocean. Fresh Faces in Fashion has become Gen Art’s largest and most prestigious fashion program, created to propel the careers of up-and-coming fashion and accessories designers. Gen Art’s fashion events have proven to be a successful launch pad for notable designers including Zac Posen, Rebecca Taylor, Chaiken, Shoshanna, Cloak, Twinkle, Milly and Louis Verdad.

January 2008 marked the launch of Megan Huntz’s signature dress line at Dou 16 in Barcelona; a reflection of her personal expression of fashion based on her accumulated research and experiences. This dress line is an accumulation of Huntz’s design research and personal expression of fashion: a simple focused concept on one object of design, interesting materials that enrich it, accessible exclusivity and style that reflects fun and effortless elegance for everyday life. She says, “Wear one to do your grocery shopping!”

Megan Huntz Dresses is currently being sold at Zsu Zsa, a boutique that has become a classic staple of the super chic girls of Barcelona for over a decade. Zsu Zsa designs and sells its own label in its small but lovely shop in the Born neighborhood of Barcelona, together with collections of other young, up-and-coming designers.

Good Luck Megan!! We’re sure you’re gonna rock it in Miami. Hope you like the photo. You’re lucky we didn’t post some of the more scandalous photos, we’re saving those for when you become famous.

So if you happen to be in Miami this weekend, go show some love and support our girl.

Worldwide Hustlin’

April 3rd, 2008 by Larry

photo credit: Megan Huntz [Treviso, Italy]

The past 2 months have been exhausting, yet very rewarding for EC. Starting a design company ain’t easy. It’s even harder to run a hybrid design company/clothing line like we do. I’ve been to Las Vegas, Destin, Detroit, Tokyo, Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong on business (and a little bit of personal time) all within a matter of weeks. It’s like I’ve hardly spent any time in Atlanta working on the new clothing line. That’s right, I said “NEW CLOTHING LINE”! We’re launching a new line in the Spring of 2009 that’s top secret for now…well, not totally top secret. If you come by our studio in Atlanta we’ll be glad to show you what we’re working on.

We’re totally planning to be carried nationwide and perhaps internationally. While I’ve been in Asia sourcing, Georgios has been hard at work on mood boards, color palates, and graphics for the new line at The Center for Design Study in Atlanta. I’m looking forward to getting back into the thick of things next week. Until then I wanted to share some recent Epidemik Coalition & Demuns by Epidemik Coalition related photos from all over the globe proving that the movement has begun!

Here’s a link to a few of the photos we took of the Rehab/Demun Jones show in Destin, FL on the 16th. This show was the first time Demuns by Epidemik Coalition tees were for sale in the public eye. As you can see, Demun Jones was looking mighty crispy in his heather grey Demuns logo tee. Pick up yours at Demuns.com.

March 18th, 2008 by Georgios

We went back up to Coca-Cola HQ this past week and installed a few more things that we didn’t get to finish on the last round. We had a fun time experimenting with spray paint and inks. We have a few more things to install and a whole conference room to design. So keep a lookout for future Project Fourt news.

Check out more photos after the jump.

“American Excess” graphic tee available now at demuns.com

Demuns by Epidemik Coalition is the official name of our newest collaboration with Georgia’s own, Demun Jones. We’re the design team and we’re using Demun’s life experiences and stories as inspirations for a new line of tees and other softgoods (coming soon). His humility and openness to share his highs and lows has allowed us to design without censorship which has been a creative playground for us.

Series 1 of these limited edition graphic tees are available for purchase online at Demuns.com or in person at every Demun Jones show starting with the upcoming Destin, Florida date at Woody’s on March 16th.

Check Demuns.com often, as well will be constantly updating the site with new styles. See you on tour!

EL BAR Lives

March 1st, 2008 by Larry

“Wall-to-wall Action” are the only words to describe EL BAR’s “last party”. Hundreds showed up to kill it for a final time… but there’s good news as EL BAR won’t be closing after all. There are tons of rumors about what went down, but with a few last minute negotiations, the end result will keep the doors open. Thanks to Colleen, Slugger, Presto, Rob Wonder and the EL BAR crew for keeping it epic. Atlanta needed this.

Atlanta’s best kept secret a.k.a. EL BAR will be closing tonight. EL BAR has been our favorite place to see some of the ATL’s best DJs melt wax. ATLiens, do yourself a favor and come out tonight (Feb. 29) for a special set by the legend, Rob Wonder.

We’re teaming up with Georgia-born rock star Demun Jones to release a new line of tees and lifestyle products called Demuns by Epidemik Coalition. Look out for our first release in the next few weeks at Demun Jones concerts and in our respective online stores.

We’re the design team, and Demun’s life experiences are our inspiration. Visit the Demuns by Epidemik Coalition teaser site at Demuns.com & get your mother ready…

Vegas Part 2

February 13th, 2008 by Larry

We met Dallas Austin at the Project trade show today. Funny thing is, his studio is down the street from ours in the ATL, and it took all this time for us to finally run into each other in Las Vegas. He was repping his own line, Rowdy. Thanks to Mike Mora with Rowdy for hooking us up with a sweet Rowdy Lightning Bolt tee.

We also saw Lauren and Whitney from the Hills, but they looked really busy working on their respective lines, so we weren’t able to ask for a photo op. I guess I need to brush up on my paparazzi style photo skills(for the sake of the blog), or not.

Anyway, we learned tons about the industry today and we’re realizing there’s a lot of work to do. I’m eager to get back the Dirty South to get started. But for now, there’s nothing else to do but party Vegas style!

More photos from today after the jump.

Vegas Part 1

February 13th, 2008 by Larry

We spent our first night wondering the strip and we ended up at the Beatles themed Revolution Lounge with our buddy and Portfolio Center alum, Boris Kostov. We didn’t bring our cameras out because we didn’t think we’d have anything interesting to document but we were wrong. Vegas never sleeps! People are crazy here! I managed to snap a camera phone photo of Boris in front of the interactive wall display at Revolution Lounge. There were photographers roaming the lounge and we’re pretty sure our mugs are going to be on the internet somewhere else. I’ll find photos soon I’m sure. We did meet some apparel industry folks out-and-about last night and we’ll be catching up with them later today. Photos from Project and Magic coming soon.

Big Things Poppin’

February 12th, 2008 by Larry

We’re leaving our home at The Center for Design Study for the week. We’ll be traveling to Las Vegas for the Magic and Project trade shows. While we won’t be selling anything just yet, these trade shows will be good for us to learn new things about apparel manufacturing and meet new people in the industry.

We’ll post some photos and recounts of day-by-day action. We’ll also be sending stuff to D. Hall at Standard for their blog as well. Holler if you know of some trouble we should get into…

The Heaviest Typeface in the World

January 25th, 2008 by Larry

If you’ve been to Octane Coffee lately, you’ve probably noticed the new wall graphic. How could you not? It’s Black Slabbath, the heaviest typeface in the world. There’s only one thing about this new typeface that isn’t colossally black: the razor-thin white space. It slices through and between geometric characters, creating a juxtaposition of contrasts and rhythms. It was designed by our buddy and creative director of Armchair Media, Stefan Kjartansson and is available for purchase at YouWorkForThem.

Here’s a video of Mick Bailey installing the wall graphic at Octane.

We’re going to hold a small design contest as incentive for you to purchase the typeface from YouWorkForThem. It goes like this: We’ll print a tee for the first person to send us a completed design (2 colors or less) using Black Slabbath. We’ll also print a few extra tees for ourselves and some close friends, but you’ll get all the bragging rights! Email your final graphics to . Let’s do this!

Standard Blog

December 3rd, 2007 by Larry

Our good friends at Standard have a new blog where they document fashion, new shipments of clothes, and EC of course. If you live in Atlanta, you already know Standard is the premier boutique to get your high end threads and streetwear all in one place. By the way, they’re having a huge sale this weekend. I’ll be there to pick up some McQ on the low. Do yourself a favor and visit the Standard Blog for more details on the sale.
