As we wrap up production for PROCESS, I wanted to highlight the importance of these four screens. Together, they’re used to create our Crossed-Tomahawks graphic tee which is one of my favorites from the entire line. Most of our readers don’t know this, but this graphic was one of the last created for the line and almost didn’t make the final cut. It was definitely unplanned, but was a no-brainer when we incorporated our tagline, Made In The Dirty South. I think it was at that point where we decided it was totally relevant to what we were doing. If you must have one, hang tight until March the 6th, 2009. They’ll be available online at wearetheprocess.com and at Standard on that day.

Georgios and I have been playing around with the idea of direct to garment printing lately. We’ve found that the printing process is quite fickle, painstaking, and pricey, although the results are usually really nice when done properly. It’s can become as irritable as troubleshooting your ink-jet printer at home. In my honest opinion, it seems that this will be the way of the future for tee printing, but the technology for consistency and efficiency isn’t quite “there” yet. Check out more photos of the PROCESS Iris tee from our direct to garment experiment after the jump.

Jeremy Abernathy from ArtVoices Magazine conducted a phone interview with me back in October, as his coverage of the LeFlash event in Castleberry Hill. The interview was just published in the December issue of this print-only magazine, which has distribution in New Orleans, Miami, Atlanta, DC, NYC, LA, and Seattle.

The article mentions Epidemik Coalition and an installation called THE WALL which was featured in Art House Gallery the night of the event. For those who remember, THE WALL is a project I designed which accepts user-submitted images via email and throws them up large-scale in a public space to create a sort of live, electronic, community billboard. Your neighbor’s new baby, an absurd situation in the grocery store, your friends clinking their beer glasses: anything you would photo-blog from your cell phone cam is fair-game for this system that publicizes these images in an outdoor setting. (instead of being stuck in a private setting on your home laptop).

Although brief, the article touches on the point of the project and something all of the EC crew is aiming for: using design to build better and stronger places and people. Until I can get my hands on a copy of the printed magazine to have around the studio, click here to link to the full-page scan of the write-up.

Menes Productions is the tentative name for Jorge Menes’ company identity. His goal is to generate music industry related work by delivering powerful imagery with a personal touch that’ll make you look twice. See more of the creative process after the jump.

The logo EC produced for Menes Productions is bold and progressive. The logo can exist as a simple shape for die-cut business cards or tee shirts. For print and web, a 3D logo treatment can make the logo appear to come forward or recede when looking through 3D glasses.

We interviewed Jorge to find out what qualities he wanted in his logo. Boldness was a key attribute we needed to capture, so we began with iterations on the top left, played with ligatures, and eventually moved on to more iconic references. The lightning bolt universally stands for Rock and Roll, so we drew an uber-bold M with a severe slant, creating a lightning bolt with the M‘s negative space.

Obviously, the mark has to exist within Jorge’s back catalog of work, and has to live among his future works. To see a catalog of Jorge’s shots, peep his Flickr by clickinghere. Success? We think so…
