Thanks to everyone in Charleston that made it out to the We Are the Process Holiday Showcase at Rogue Wave Surf Shop last weekend. It was a blast catching up with old friends and meeting new ones over a few New Belgium brews. Knowing that we have supporters all over the Dirty South is encouraging and it tells us that we are growing the brand the right way. We recently met Rhett Boyd, owner of Rogue Wave Surf Shop (RWSS), during our Christmas in July event in Charleston. He invited us to visit his shop the following day and we were definitely curious as to the type of surf shop he owned. You see, he was probably the most dapper fellow at the event, but all I could picture in my head was a typical surf shop with neon colored boards, trunks, and Sex Wax. My preconceived notions were pleasantly mistaken the following day, as I soon realized that RWSS is 50% a collection of relics (that are for sale of course), 25% surf product, and 25% lifestyle clothing. It’s as if Ernest Hemingway was a surfer and opened his own store.

The drive back to ATL…

Last Friday, Nike Skateboarding pros visited our friends at Black Sheep Skate Shop in Charlotte on what was called the “Too Cold to Hold Tour”. Nike skaters such as Eric Koston & ATL’s own, Grant Taylor, were in attendance. As you can see, the skate scene in Charlotte is alive due in part to a great shop like Black Sheep. Here is a sneak peek at the Nike Sportswear at Hollywood & Vine energy space that is open during this NBA All Star Weekend. This is where basketball and culture converge in Los Angeles. This one-of-a-kind 360-degree experience that celebrates L.A. neighborhoods, the Air Force 1, and the game of basketball. Retail hours – Friday 10pm—2am; Saturday 6pm—9pm.

I picked up my pair of Nike Zoom Kobe VI [Del Sol/Black] on release day from Nice Kicks, in Austin, TX over the holidays. If you’re a sneakerhead living in the US, you should get familiar with Nice Kicks. Located deep in the heart of Austin, TX, they’ve been serving The South for a few years now.

If the name sounds familiar, chances are you’ve probably stumbled upon their website, NiceKicks.com before, or you’re already an avid reader of the site. They manage to run a quality shop and update their world-famous website with up-to-date features multiple times a day. The owner, Matt Halfhill, must have a great team around him. He’s doing it right!

If you’re a bike enthusiast, I’d recommend spending some time in Mellow Johnny’s Bike Shop in Austin, Texas. I spent a few days in the land of SXSW this past week and I couldn’t pass-up the opportunity to see Lance Armstrong’s store in person. Lance’s nickname is Mellow Johnny (a play on maillot jaune, which is French for Yellow Jersey). I don’t ride bikes but a lot of my friends do, so I was more interested in capturing this amazing storefront sign. The craftsmanship that went into creating this one of a kind sign really amazes me. I wish more businesses in ATL could boast a similar sensibility for design.

Our good friends at Centre have opened a new location and added a vinyl toy storefront called Atama to the upper level of their new store. Jorge and I saw the empty location a few weeks back when they were finishing renovations. It’s awesome to see a prominent taste-making store in my hometown and I can’t wait to stop by and see how things are going over the holidays. Congrats to store owner Phillip Sterling and his crew for doing an amazing job with their new space. If you look closely at 2:20 you can see some new We Are the Process gear hanging on the racks! It’s awesome to know that the premier spot in Dallas is carrying a line that I’m part of. Fun fact: Philip and I went to the same middle-school/high-school but never realized that we had crossed paths until we met again at his store a few years ago. Small world y’all…
