Another one of my genius stupid ideas that was actually a hit! It took some careful planning and refrigerator space, but Georgios and I figured out how to make it happen in a few hours. I felt like I was in college all over again. Thanks to El Bar for supporting us & supplying the booze for this crazy project!

Way back in the day when I first started getting into photography I used to frequent a message board (this was before blogs) called Paper Brigade. The message board was run by a couple of dudes that went to the New England School of Photography and usually was filled with band photography. This was where I found out about the Day 19 duo and where I found out about Dennis Ho. Dennis was a dude that lived in Jacksonville while I did and was a bit of an inspiration to me when I was first getting into photography. He was always going on tour with crazy bands like Weezer or The Get Up Kids for weeks at a time and that was what I really wanted to do for a while. Needless to say I never got into the whole band photography thing but I was really excited to meet someone who was. Dennis is a super cool dude and has been a friend of mind for a good while now. Although he hasn’t been shooting as much recently as he did when I first meet him its always fun to look back at some of his work and reminisce on days past. If you want to check out more of Dennis’ work you can check out his website here or after the jump.

Yesterday, I was asked to freak a type treatment for Levi Maestro’s new mixtape (mixed by DJ Sourmilk) featuring songs from his Maestro Knows web series that has gotten hugely popular over the past months.

I decided to go with one of my favorite “display/headline” fonts, Trade Gothic Bold No. 20 Condensed, that I’ve been rockin’ since my design school days. Also, I’m hyped to finally throw down on one of Zach Wolfe’s shots. He’s been holding it down for ATL for years!

Resident Epidemik Coalition / PROCESS photographer, Jorge Menes, was in town over the weekend and snapped this photo of @DecaturDan while shooting some test frames for our new lookbook. Although we won’t officially use this shot in our book, I thought it was a perfect to tease at what we’ve been up to…

A few weeks back, I spent some time in Hong Kong made a point to “look-under-the-hood” of the inner workings of Hypebeast as I spent the afternoon with Managing Editor, Eugene Kan. This was a great chance to put a face to a name on someone I’ve only had contact through the internet and also an opportunity to “take things in” as a curious contributor to the EC/PROCESS brands. We spent the afternoon discussing the current state of streetwear and the global economy’s effect on all of us as consumers. Eugene also agreed to this exclusive interview with me based on our conversations of that day.

Check it out after the jump.

Photo Friday: Lionel Deluy

This week I was fortunate enough to work with celebrity photographer Lionel Deluy. I worked on a job for an upcoming hip hop star and it was a fun filled day of Lambos, crack houses and getting yelled at by neighborhood vigilantes. Lionel is the first big LA celebrity photographer that I have worked for and it was a really interesting experience. After watching videos on YouTube of Lionel as a guest star on America’s Next Top Model a couple of years ago and shooting for Kat Von D’s new book I was expecting the worst. Much to my surprise Lionel and his assistant Odyssey turned out to be really awesome dudes, making our 12 hour day a breeze. It seems like Lionel has shot just about everyone there is to shoot as far as celebrities and musicians are concerned so this is only a small portion of his work. Check out more work after the jump or on his website here.

Due to your requests, we added some straight-up logo stickers and tees into the 2nd collection this summer. For our first season, we decided that we didn’t want to start a brand centered on a logotype but our supporters have ruled otherwise! Thanks for the feedback guys!

While supplies last, we’ll include a stack of stickers with your online orders and we’ve also left a stack at Standard on Peachtree Road in ATL. Check out the new collection (goes on sale Friday the 26th) and snag a complimentary sticker while they last!

David Stern’s pocketbook has been hurting ever since MJ decided to call it quits. Which explains why the NBA has been full of undeserving players being put on pedestals for years since. That explains the moronic foul calls and the reason why 20-somethings worldwide long for “back in the day”. MJ is the greatest. Hands down. Lebron, take notes… btw, having Shaq on your team isn’t gonna help either.

Heads up to Dr. Jones for the link!

Where are you from?
Originally Vallejo, California but now it’s looking like I’m from Atlanta. Been here longer, anyway. Can’t deny your roots, tho.

Who do you work for?
Octane Coffee, for the next 3 weeks anyway. Then I’ll be working for Stumptown Coffee NYC!!

What are your Current Project(s)?
Making things taste amazing!!! We’re working on this single origin espresso from Ethiopia that has been rocking lately. It’s like purple and green skittles. I’m also working on my moped. Does that count? It’s a project. And moving.

Who would you love to work with?
Luckily I work with the coolest effing people at Octane, but I do have my coffee crushes I would love to collaborate with. Like Aida Battle from Santa Ana, El Salvador. This woman has three farms in El Salvador and does some ridiculously amazing coffee. Kentaro Maruyama is also a badass and I would love to learn his zen ways of cupping coffees.

If you had to give all your sneakers away to charity except for one pair, which ones would you keep?
I have these old green vans slip ons that I CANNOT get rid of because I wore them on my first trip to Japan. I will probably move them around forever and grab them quickly if my house begins to burn down.

What’s on your iPod right now?
I’ve been marching backwards in time and revisiting a bunch of shit I used to listen to like Dismemberment Plan, Tristeza, Tortoise… then there’s Broadcast, the Field, Yo la Tengo, Lilys, and Stereolab.

What’s your Favorite ATL food?
arvers- god I’m going to miss this place, specifically the pulled pork. And the BBQ Tofu taco at El Myr. And the deviled eggs at H&F rock my world.

What’s your Favorite ATL hangout?
When I’m not at work I’m at Method Coffee Bar during the day and at Leon’s Full Service or the Brickstore Pub at night.

What are your Pet Peeves?
People on their cell phones at the register or iced espressos or gender related comments regarding coffee.  i drink my coffee black thank you very much because it tastes DELICIOUS this way.

Shout outs?
I guess this is where I get to say goodbye? Sara- so pumped we’ve become so tight; AlyShel, Crystal, the other half of Team Coffee - Ben Helfen (you’re gonna kill in Cologne!), Tiny Rifle and the whole Octane crew,  the sleepy creepies, the Cabbagetown posse, Liz BFF Clayton, EKIII <3, Lamont and Byron, the LEON’s and BSP crew, the blogfam, and my southeast coffee fam love you always.

Photo Friday: Iran Election Protests

Category: Photo Friday
June 19th, 2009 by Ross

110.jpg

Last Friday marked a pretty major moment in world history with the 10th Iranian presidential election. While Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was reported as winning the election supporters of Mir-Hossein Mousavi believed there was foul play. Thousands of Mousavi supporters began protesting thru-out the country with massive demonstrations taking place in Tehran.

The images that have come out have been incredible but since the first batch of pictures came out the Iranian government has banned all foreign media.

The most interesting part of all of it is how the U.S. State Department is using Twitter as a means to keep in touch with what is going on. The State Department asked Twitter to delay their scheduled maintenance so that people in Iran could still update their accounts while protesting continued to go on. I’ve never heard of a country blocking off all foreign media while such major demonstrations are going on but Im really glad that these images made it out before that.

Check out more photos that struck me after the jump. Read more »

The infallible Joe Martinez, who I will be accompanying to American Idol auditions today, recently took these great outdoor photos of Chris after work. I can’t say enough about how much Chris has helped the cause and I’m glad to have him on the team. It doesn’t matter how old you are, or how much experience you have. It really comes down to your drive, your word, and your determination to make an impact. So far, Chris has left an indelible impression on us at EC/PROCESS. Leave a nice comment for your boy!
