Where are you from?
College Park, Georgia!

Who do you work for?
For 18 amazing children in the Early Preschool Class at an Autistic Center.

What are your Current Project(s)?
When I’m not being miss teacher lady, I’m a complete 35mm film junkie. I’m working on building a portfolio under my nom de guerre “Kneesees Pieces” as well as Analog Girls. I have really big ideas as to where I’d like this all to go… but I’ll be about it before I talk about it. Eventually I’d love to see my work turn into little exhibits and books. It’s all for the love of film.. I’m no fame and fortune seeker.

Who would you love to work with?
Storytellers, visionaries and genuine, worldly people. Thats all.

If you had to give all your sneakers away to charity except for one pair, which ones would you keep?
My wal mart shoes. They’re one in a billion.

What’s on your iPod right now?
I actually don’t even have an iPod but my iTunes is playing lots of Camera Obscura, Au Revoir Simone, The Radio Dept., The Cure, Broken Social Scene, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and almost everything 80s.

What’s your Favorite ATL food?
I’m always hungry. So can we say foods? Hot Cafe in College Park is my Thai food comfort haven. It’s really Laotian owned, but thats when you know it’s real good. The 5Spot has the best sammiches. I love Flying Biscuit in Candler Park.. and oh yeah R. Thomas. I told you I was always hungry.

What’s your Favorite ATL hangout?
El Bar? El yeah! Duh!

What are your Pet Peeves?
I’m super passive. I notice everything and nothing at the same time. On top of that, I work with two-year-olds… you could only imagine the things I go through. So I think I’ve built an even more higher tolerance for things.

Shout outs?
My analog ladies.. Hadiyah & Ashley, my little minions who give me the occasional black eye and bruised legs and everyone else who has mused me on my film projects! aye!

Mums FP’s manager just sent this track over. Apparently it was recorded in 2007, but will finally be released with a mixtape titled, Mr. 4th Quarter, on May 15th. If the rest of the tape has a groove like this track, then we’re in business!

This week I helped out Morel Studio Support for a couple of days and got to work with my friend Bobby. He was telling me about how he got to assist for Peter Yang on the last cover of Rolling Stone with Lil Wayne. I remember seeing that particular image for the first time and how impressed I was with it. Really there isn’t anything to the image that blows me away as far as lighting and concept is concerned and I think thats why I love it. Everyone knows who Lil Wayne is but to see such a simple picture of him I think is such a great contrast to what we’re used to seeing on his album covers or hearing in his lyrics. Just another fine example of simplistic lightinig and how effective it can be and even an awesome success story. Yang is about 30 years old and started shooting for a newspaper in Austin, TX about 10 years ago and now he’s shooting covers for Rolling Stone. I wonder what he’s gonna end up shooting another 10 years from now? If you want to read more about his approach to another assignment you can check out an awesome article here (its kind of photo nerdish but still an awesome read).

Fugees Family Featured on CNN

.
The other day I was sitting through a layover in the Tokyo Narita Airport in Japan when I looked up from playing NBA Live to see a familiar face on CNN. Coach Luma Mufleh and the Fugees Family were being featured on a special about Africa and I was excited for that kind of global exposure for their organization. I wanted to stand up in the middle of the airport and exclaim, “I know her, we worked together!” The website that EC created for them is shown several times in the feature as well. I was floored.

Who do you work for?
My own self

What are your Current Project(s)?
We’re working on a few Brand Identity  and advertising projects for Coca-Cola, a new website for the fashion designer Catherine Malandrino, a new brand identity for the Migrating Forms film festival in NYC, just wrapped up mybedo.com, as well as the BeDo name and identity. We’re currently diving into new projects with Creative Capital, and Basil & Sons, a men’s pants line.

Who would you love to work with?
We’re lucky to collaborate with so many great people already –  you and the Epidemik Coalition team, Armchair, Ignition, plus a whole bunch of folks in NY. As for clients, we want to be the creative resource for a handfull of social and business entreprenuers.

If you had to give all your sneakers away to charity except for one pair, which ones would you keep?
I’ve got some old lo-top leather Chucks that look like Japanese nurse shoes. No one can figure out what they are exactly. They’re perforated like a bandaid, super slim soles, and no markings.

What’s on your iPod right now?
Bumblebee Unlimited, Sun Ra, Djeli Daouda Dembele, Fleetwood Mac, and Willie Nelson.

What’s your Favorite ATL food?
When Im in Atlanta, I turn into a “lady who lunches”. I’m all about a loaded dog or a shrimp po-boy from Star Provisions… topped off with soft serve icecream with a little olive oil and sea salt.

Porches with swings, BBQs, house parties, and The Center for Design Study.

What are your Pet Peeves?
People who sit around and mope.

AC/DC - Shook Me All Night Long (DJ Slink Mix)

three6mafia_acdc.jpg

This remix is very straightforward and that’s why I love it. DJ Slink takes a classic AC/DC track and peppers in just enough Three6Mafia to make the track interesting. I heard one of the resident DJs at El Bar play this a couple weeks back, but I can’t remember who it was. Regardless, I’m looking forward to hearing it again at loud-as-hell volume. Perhaps someone will play it for me tonight, if I can make it back to the A in time to see Rob Wonder and Cristo Disco for their Cinco de Mayo party.

Atlanta Hawks Alternate Uniforms???

Category: Design, Misc., ATL Life, Branding
May 3rd, 2009 by Larry

atlanta_hawks_alternate_jersey_2009.jpg
Does anyone know someone that works at Atlanta Spirit?

Firstly, Congrats to the Atlanta Hawks for their first playoff series victory in 10 years! It’s been amazing to watch the process of transforming the worst team in the league to one of the most exciting teams to watch.

While I was poking around on some sports uniform/logo blogs earlier today (yes, I totally nerd-out on sports aesthetics) it dawned on me how the late 2007 rebrand of the Atlanta Hawks didn’t include an alternate uniform. Also, they eliminated using Yellow (which had been a team color since ‘72), downplayed the use of Red, and introduced Navy Blue and Silver as team colors. Currently, they wear predominantly White uniforms at home and Navy Blue uniforms on the road. I’ve included a Hawks uniform timeline PDF here.

Since there is no current Hawks alternate uniform, I quickly comped an idea onto a Josh Smith photo from their 2007-2008 campaign; using Red as the predominant color and the ATL city abbreviation. I’m not sure if there is a possibility for Hawks management to introduce a new alternate uniform for next season, but now would be a great time in Hawks history to do so. ATL pride is high, David Stern could make more money, and I’d definitely spend my hard earned cheese on a Red-Alternate Zaza Pachulia jersey!

DJ Slugger’s new mixtape, Keep It Hood The Sequel: Stay Gutter stays true to his grime-time roots. Really great stuff. I’ve been bumping on the streets of HK for about a week now. It’s the least I can do to feel like I’m home.

So I’m going to hate myself for writing this next line because of how cliché it sounds, but here it goes. I really like Tim Barber’s work because it leaves you asking questions. Okay, now that you’re done laughing, seriously take a second and look at the pictures. To me it seems like there is an open-ended question about something related to the narrative of the image, which makes me enjoy this work even more. Barber approaches photography in one of my favorite ways: simple, natural lighting, with a shoot-from-the-hip mentality; capturing everything and anything that comes his way. It makes for some beautiful images and this proved to be a good approach considering he is now shooting for the Urban Outfitters catalogs. Not only is he working on making photographs for himself but he’s also working on a really great magazine called The Journal which has some really great work. I have a feeling that we will be seeing a lot more of Tim Barber in the near future.

Nike Sportswear Hong Kong

Last summer I had the pleasure of previewing the newly opened Nike Sportswear flagship store at 21 Mercer in NYC along with it’s opening festivities. In true Nike fashion, I was invited to check out NSW’s digs in Hong Kong. Although the store’s Grand Opening has long past (it opened in October of 2008), I still wanted to take advantage of a rare opportunity to feature an HK destination that should be on the top of everyone’s lists when visiting.

DC Shoes x Standard - Admiral Hightop

dc_stand_adm8a-2.jpg

After years of having their feet planted firmly in the Atlanta lifestyle market, Standard opened the doors to it’s second location in Lenox Square. To commemorate the expansion, Standard has partnered up American footwear giant DC Shoes for their first collaborative efforts. The goal in this collaboration was to represent design elements that have always been strongly present in the motif of Standard. The true red color embodies the strong presence of red accents at both locations along with the green laces and insole, which represent the artificial turf that covers the floor at the new store, as well as the live turf used at various events at the original location.

Howdy from the other side of the globe! I’ve been in HK for the past few days and I thought it’d be nice to rep StreetLocal (one of our favorite brands/crews from ATL) while on the go. I’ve been using this StreetLocal Gentleman comb every day to keep my mane in check. As soon as I have a chance to edit my photos, I’ll post some interesting stuff I’ve been working on. It’s fun being in Asia but I can’t wait to be back with the crew in the Dirty-Dirty. Let’s get it Hawks!

While perusing the world wide web this week I came across something that made me stop in my tracks and sucked me in for quite some time. The work of Peter Funch is something that engaged me in the imagery, which is something that I could only say about a handful of photographers before I found his work. This isn’t to say that while looking at photography I am not totally engaged, but this work in particular is something that really drew me in. His concept is simple enough, take a series of images from a specific spot and then take sections that match and turn them into a single image. For example take everyone from one scene that walked through the frame that was wearing the color white and make a single photograph out of those people. Sounds simple enough but when you see the images it really takes you back. I’m a huge fan of images that suck you in like Funch’s work does and if you like what you see you can check out some more of his work after the jump.
