You may remember me showing a teaser of this a while back. The M-26-7 project was commissioned by Erik Hansson after discovering the Cohiba pieces in our portfolio. He wanted something similar for his living space so we decided to meet up and brainstorm. After Erik expressed his like for anything communist related, I decided to create these pieces of the 4 Comandantes (Castro, Che, Raul & Camilo) of the Cuban Revolution. The M-26-7 stands for the 26th of July Movement.

I’m working on another piece for some friends of EC so stayed tuned.

Recently, our buddy with The Joneses let us delve into his back stock of items from seasons past. We’re stoked on finally scoring the gear we previously missed out on. I’ve been chatting with Aaron a lot lately about his line, our line, his plans for the future, and his Spring/Summer releases which will be debuting in Charlotte on April 17th at Niche.

We’ve also been slowly discussing a The Joneses x PROCESS collaboration… more details to come once we decide what we want to do!

A Huge Compliment from Usher

As Georgios and I were leaving Philips Arena last Friday night, we received a phone call from one of our buddies who was reaching out to us on behalf of the one-and-only, Usher. As crazy as this sounds, he’d previously seen a few PROCESS pieces at Black Sheep in Charlotte last fall and wanted to pick up a few fitted caps and tees directly from us.

It is a huge compliment for someone with his star-power to show support for what we love doing. And it was important for us to deliver the order to his studio in person. He was super-nice as we chopped it up about “the PROCESS” and a few of his future endeavors. Plus, he gladly let me snap a pic of him in his new PROCESS x Estate LA Fitted too!

Since we’re on the subject… I know this is a re-posted song, but it’s one of my favs from the past year:

Photo Friday: Gregory Crewdson

March 27th, 2009 by Ross

So this week I am going to introduce you to one of my favorite photographers of all time. His name is Gregory Crewdson. Crewdson is a photographer unlike most others in that his productions for his images are probably the most elaborate I have ever seen. His images are narratives in themselves which leave the viewer with numerous story possibilities. Its pretty amazing when you look at these images in person and can see all the details up close and tell all of the time and effort that is put into making a single image. I once saw a lighting diagram for his images and its incredible all the lights that are used to make a single image, but I guess that is what you get when you hire a Director of Photography to light your images for you. Either way I hope you enjoy the images and if you’re interested in hearing a better explanation of the process involved in the making of his images you can see an interesting interview here and there is a really awesome interactive article with production photos here.

The Dead Weather - Hang You From the Heavens

Jack White has another new band, The Dead Weather. Although it’s a similar sound to what you’d expect from Mr. White, it’s also different (at least on this track) because he’s playing drums! Alison Mosshart of the Kills, is the lead singer; Dean Fertita of Queens of the Stone Age plays guitar; and Jack Lawrence, from the Raconteurs, is the bassist. If you’ve ever listened to the Kills, you’ll be familiar with the presentation of Hang You From the Heavens. I guess it remains to be seen if this is just another side-project, or if this is the future of Jack White’s musical endeavors. I can’t wait to hear the album that officially comes out on June 9th (it’ll probably hit the blogosphere way before that).

Hitting the Streets Hard in QC

A couple weeks ago the crew went to Charlotte for Laced Up and to visit our friends in the Queen City. We were lucky to have Hadi and his video camera capturing a lot of the hi jinx from that weekend. This was taken about 5 minutes after we did some Bear Fights with Myk from Danger Means Nothing escorting us through the city… hilarious! Shouts to Nikki Reid aka Party Wolf for having a good sense of humor afterward.

Yaari.com Goes Live

A while back, I mentioned this project as we had just completed designing the mark for Yaari.com’s rebrand. Since this project was deeply a social-networking site with lots of bulk, EC was challenged with making hierarchical decisions on content as well as coding the CSS for the newly relaunched Yaari.com. After handing over our comps, we’ve been anxious to see the results over the past few months. It’s great to see our work come to life. That’ll never get old.

There are a few new websites we’ve recently completed that are about to launch very soon. Stay tuned for updates!

“Yo Chief, is that a blue dishwashing sponge on your head?”

UNLESS you were born a biter! This is clearly a rip of our skulled-out Chief Nokahoma fitted and it’s soooo busted! Stick with the O.G. PROCESS Nokahoma Fitted unless you like aligning your personal brand with, crusty embroidery, ineffectual design, and other posers. Damn! What a disgrace.

A message to the designer: If you’re not from the A, don’t touch our icons. Jam out some of your weak-ass “noncepts” on the Boston leprechaun.

Thanks to our boy B for the tip.

On March 28, 2009, the youth of our city will capture the images and stories very seldom heard or rarely ever seen in the 2nd Annual Through Their Eyes Art Gallery hosted at Octane Coffee Bar & Lounge.

This year 20 Atlanta Public School students will come together to document their life, schools and community. Using their creative abilities and interpretation, they will capture their realities through the lens of Holga and film cameras.

Epidemik Coalition has worked with some of these students through Essential2life’s PUSH program. They create some amazing work with what little they have. It will be worth your time to stop by Octane and check out their documentary photographs of their everyday life. Join us in supporting Atlanta’s next generation of creatives.

From time to time, the crew at Standard will ask us to design flyers for their upcoming parties, events, and in-store appearances/performances. This week, we’re excited that the event involves hip-hop-blog-friendly rapper, Wale. He will be hanging out with us from 5 to 7pm before his ATL show later that evening. Dubbed, a “Listening Party”, the only thing I could imagine we’d be graced with hearing are tracks from his super-hyped and anticipated LP, Attention Deficit. The first single, Chillin’ featuring Lady Ga Ga, is poppy, nostalgic, and full of name-drops and product mentions. It’s definitely going to be a summer jam (whether you want it to be or not).

So before everyone out there starts to freak out over the name of this weeks photo friday take a second a listen to the story behind the images. My little dead dick is the photo essay from Patrick Tsai and Madi Ju. The story goes that the two meet over the internet and after a bit of correspondence via the interweb the two finally meet in person in Macau, China. From there they quit their jobs and both moved to China to pursue their love. In the process they took some amazing images of each other and their daily activities. The two unfortunatly broke up two years after getting together. The images here come mostly from the beginning of their relationship and are a very small portion of the whole body of work. To me its a great story and the images are beautiful and totally set the mood for the entire story. As far as the name goes, I have no idea where they got that from but the images are still awesome.

Dosa Kim x PROCESS Interview

March 17th, 2009 by Larry

A couple weeks back, our friends from freshiam.net came by our studio with Dosa Kim to discuss the collaboration we did with him for the PROCESS line. It was a completely natural decision for us to reach out to one of our favorite ATL-based artists to contribute to our line. It’s definitely been a popular graphic among our customers. Make sure you snag yours in the PROCESS Online Boutique before they sell out.

Last Friday, we arrived in Charlotte about 3 hours before the Laced Up show at The Forum with our custom custom PROCESS Chukka boots in hand. Just enough time to drop them off with the show’s coordinators, grab a bite to eat, and get back to the show. Thanks a million to our Queen City friends for showing us around town, giving us the VIP treatment, and for the endless hospitality.

Shout outs: Radar for letting us crash at his pad and for the endless shenanigans (videos will surface on the internet), A.C., Camila with Blu Magazine, Myk with D.M.N., Shane, BLNGxBDGT, Bobby and Niche, Josh and Black Sheep, Ryan O’Malley for the sweet prints and the basement tour of the Davidson College archives, and everyone else we met or forgot to mention.

While I was surfing the internet this weekend I came across a pretty interesting new photography project called The 50 States Project. The states project, run by UK photographer and art photography curator Stuart Pilkington, is comprised of 50 photographers, one from every state and a series of assignments given to the photographers. They are given 2 months to work on the images in whatever way they see fit and then the results are posted on the website. The list of photographers working on the project is a pretty interesting group of people with some of my favorites like Jeremy and Claire Weiss and Brian Ulrich submitting images. Its a pretty good start and should be an awesome project to keep checking up on throughout the rest of the year. Here are some of my favorite images from the first project entitled people.

Laced Up: Getting Inspired

Category: Design, Events, Sneakers, Art Show, Charlotte
March 12th, 2009 by Larry

chukka_taped.jpg

Part of the our crew will be heading up to Charlotte for tonight’s Laced Up sneaker event at The Forum. We were given this pair of Vans Chukka boots a few weeks back and the first thing we had to do was mask the soles with tape before we sprayed the canvas sneakers with the color we wanted. I don’t want to give away what our custom sneaker looks like, so I’ll leave you with a hint. It was inspired by the Bombera illustration Georgios made for the PROCESS line. If you’re in Charlotte, come out tonight for the big reveal. Everyone else, stay tuned because we’ll have photos from the show and more making-of shots very soon.
