Lamar Odom - Always On

October 12th, 2011 by Larry

As a part of Nike Sportswear’s original video series, Always On, Nike has released an exclusive video featuring LA basketball star Lamar Odom and rapper Stalley today. Stalley created original music accompanying the video, featuring Odom’s journey from his home in Los Angeles to his hometown turf in Queens, New York. Reflecting a “day in the life,” this installment portrays a homecoming for Odom from walking down Jamaica Avenue and practice at Frederick B. Judge Park. The video resonates on how deep his roots have shaped him to be “always on” by visiting various places that has helped develop his mentality and dedication to athleticism from his upbringing in NYC.

Included with this video is an original track from up-and-coming Ohio rapper Stalley called Born To Win, which was produced by J. Rawls. Stalley is also a basketball player whom in high school decided to pursue music instead of a career as a pro-athlete. Understanding the heart of what drives an athlete, Stalley’s track flows cohesively with Odom’s laid-back, humble style creating a reflective atmosphere. Behind the scenes footage offers us a deeper look in to the minds of Stalley and Odom and the creative process involved in both outputs.

Always On is a Nike Sportswear campaign highlighting the lives of a variety of athletes, coupling them with exclusive music tracks to tell the diverse stories – on and off-court in and out of the studio, in all aspects of their daily lives. For more information, visit www.nikesportswear.com.

We Are the Process Fantasy Basketball Trophies

August 27th, 2011 by Larry

we-are-the-process-fantasy-basketball-trophies.jpeg

I’ve been slacking in getting our fantasy basketball trophies made and sent out to the winners. My motivation finally get this done was the fact that our Fantasy Football league draft is upon us this weekend & Nick Cooper was eager to get his mitts on his trophy. It’s going to live at his house for the next year (or possibly longer, considering the NBA lockout is far from over). Oh well. Better late than never! Right guys? Check out our final league standings & laugh at the pitiful records of some of our best friends after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

Joe Johnson Training Through NBA Lockout

August 26th, 2011 by Larry

At least the richest basketball player on the Atlanta Hawks payroll is keeping up his end of the deal during the NBA lockout. With no sign of a possible season, it gives me peace of mind to know that JJ is hooping hard (with Kevin Durant nonetheless) and staying in mid-season form.

Kevin Durant Drops 66 at Rucker Park

August 3rd, 2011 by Larry

While I was in New York last summer for World Basketball Festival, there was much talk of how Kevin Durant had not yet played at NYC’s outdoor basketball mecca, Rucker Park. Well, it seems that an appearance of KD at Rucker was well worth the wait, because he scored 66 points in 1 game the other day. Whaaa?!?!? Video after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

Basketballfeld: The Craziest Court Ever

June 29th, 2011 by Larry

basketballfeld-2.jpeg

German design collective, inges idee, have created this wild basketball court at the Occupational School Center in Munich. From the looks of the photos, it’d be impossible to hold an actual 5-on-5 style game on this court, but perhaps an interesting game of H-O-R-S-E could ensue?

What do you guys think about this? Is this considered smart art? Or is it a waste of space and resources?

More photos and inges idee’s explanation of the court’s purpose after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

Atlanta Hawks, SOLD?!?

June 23rd, 2011 by Larry

josh_smith_whine.jpg

Earlier today, Ian Thomsen from SI.com reported that the Atlanta Hawks are on the verge of being sold.

“One of the sources confirmed that the sale is about to be consummated, but declined to identify the buyer.

The news was expected to come as a surprise to team officials of the Hawks, who were not aware a sale was imminent as they prepared for the NBA draft. SI.com learned of the sale hours before the draft, though the news is not expected to influence the Hawks’ decision-making during the draft.”

This doesn’t sound very promising. This shows that there is little communication between the EVIL Atlanta Spirit Group and the team’s officials. I just hope the isn’t sold to another ownership group that can’t agree on any decisions.

The Atlanta Spirit issued a statement saying “we have spoken with a number of parties, but at this time, there is no deal in place, nor is there an exclusive negotiating agreement in place.” Hawks spokesman Arthur Triche said Thursday the team had no further comment.”

This is the same kind of statement they made before they sold the Thrashers. This is merely to buy time before breaking any real news. Typical PR move here…

“The Hawks ownership group last month sold the Atlanta Thrashers to a group that will relocate the franchise to Winnipeg next season. The Hawks owners have spent the last two to three years seeking minority investors in the NBA team.”

What do you think? I feel that the franchise can only succeed more if the team is sold (hopefully to an owner with a drastically different philosophy on running a team). I can’t wait for a sale to happen, but I’m also expecting a catastrophic mismanagement of the team’s personnel & image in the process.

Props to #TeamSwoosh for getting that tee on the Finals MVP. Great timing. So appropriate.

Jordan Phase 23 Hoops Joe Johnson “Home” & “Away” PE

May 4th, 2011 by Larry

jordan-phase-23-hoops-joe-johnson.jpg

I’m a huge fan of Air Jordan sneakers, but usually my fandom is limited to retro models that MJ actually wore on court or signature models such as the CP3.IV. That being said, I tend to ignore many Team Jordan models. Once in awhile however, Jordan Brand releases a shoe that catches my attention; and that’s exactly what they did this week with the release of the Jordan Phase 23 Hoops Joe Johnson PE’s. Perhaps I’m all ears because they have something to do with my beloved Atlanta Hawks? Perhaps, it’s because the heel strap that reminds me of the Air Jordan IV (one of my favorites)? Or maybe it’s because the forefoot strap reminds me of Nike Air Trainers from the Bo Jackson days? More likely than not, it’s a combination of all 3 of these reasons.

This is a shoe that I can see myself wearing at Philips Arena while cheering on our Hawks. Truth be told, Joe Johnson is a quieter player and doesn’t get any national shine. So it’s difficult as an Atlanta Hawks fan to want to wear a Melo shoe or DWade shoe (they are our rivals). It’s awesome to see that Jordan Brand is releasing something I can truly back 100%.

Supposedly Joe Johnson will be wearing these in the 2nd round of the playoffs, but I didn’t see them on his feet during Game 1 in Chicago. Perhaps we’ll see them tonight!

More after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »
