Snow on tha Bluff [Trailer]

July 6th, 2011 by Eden

snow_on_tha_bluff_655.jpg

A new independent movie filmed in Atlanta, Snow on tha Bluff has been gaining a lot of attention and press since hitting the film festival circuit. The movie is described by the producer as ” gangster flick meets Paranormal Activity” and it definitely seems like an original look at life in the Bluff, Atlanta’s seediest neighborhood. The trailer starts out showing a car full of college-kids who’ve wandered into the Bluff looking for dope, and are immediately robbed of their money and video camera by Curtis Snow, the film’s protagonist. After this, the film follows Curtis as he films his day-to-day life, selling drugs, robbing other dope boys, and running from the cops. Filmed from Curtis’ point of view from his stolen video camera, the movie looks like it’ll have an un-edited view into life in this part of Atlanta. And judging by the trailer there will be plenty of action as well. Snow on tha Bluff, directed by reality TV producer Darren Russell, is about to hit theaters in a limited run, and the people behind it are also working on getting it distributed on DVD and on Netflix. It’s exciting to see a movie with a different method of story-telling and such a unique voice coming out of Atlanta. Check out the trailer after the jump and be on the lookout for screenings in the near future.

Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest 2011

July 4th, 2011 by Larry

nathans_hotdog_eating_contest_2011.jpg

If you were the BEST in the world at something and you weren’t allowed to compete in the “Championship event” of that something, wouldn’t you be pissed? Wouldn’t the victor of said “Championship event” be a total phony? This has been the case of Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest for the past 2 years! The best in the world, Takeru Kobayashi, has been ineligible to compete at Nathan’s for the second year in a row because he refuses to sign a contract with Major League Eating, the “governing body” of competitive eating.

Last year, Kobayashi rushed the stage in a “Free Kobi” shirt after Joey Chestnut won and was dragged away without any sort of recognition. This year, he staged his own event in Manhattan at the same time, flanked by TV screens showing the Nathan’s event and ate 69 hot dogs! Breaking Joey Chestnut’s previous record of 68. Joey Chestnut only ate 62 today and “won”.

I’m not fully aware of all the details of the Major League Eating contract that Kobayaski is unwilling to sign, but to me it’s fishy. Like if your singing career is based on auto-tune, and then a group of bros show up and tell you that you can only use auto-tune if you decide to sing with their group. Naw, cousin…

Anyway, the fully-engorged video from today’s Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest is available after the jump. It’s still a marvel to watch, I just wish that it was really among the world’s greatest. Maybe the camerawork could’ve allowed for less of Patrick “Deep Dish” Bertoletti’s disgusting eating methods. Read the rest of this entry »

Givers - Up Up Up [Video]

June 28th, 2011 by Eden

givers_upupup_video_still.jpg

About a month ago we featured Givers’ song Up Up Up from their first full length album In Light. Since then, the album’s been released, the group played their single on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and now the Louisiana band has released their first music video for Up Up Up. The video starts with what looks like tilt shift footage of New York City, making people, cars and taxis look like toys in a miniature city. It then cuts to the group placed on top of an illustrated forest along with all their instruments, bopping and singing along. The video continues, cutting back and forth from these two segments for almost the whole song, with the band members eventually appearing on the New York streets. The two parts of the music video aren’t really cohesive, but all in all it’s a interesting video of the band having a good time and it goes well with the catchy, happy-go-lucky song. Check it out after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

Nike LunarGlide+ 3

June 14th, 2011 by Larry

Think about all the folks you see around with a pair of LunarGlides on. They are everywhere. I have a pair of original LunarGlides and I love them. I can stand up for hours a time with no pain. I can run as long as I want (until I get bored of running). I predict the LunarGlide+ 3 will out-do the previous 2 models based on it’s functional design that also makes for a badass looking running shoe. A little birdy told me these will hit retail shelves on July 1st. It’s safe to say Nike Running store at Lenox Square Mall will have every colorway imaginable!

Nike Cricket: Yards

March 30th, 2011 by Larry

I’m not going to pretend that I understand the game of Cricket, but this video makes me want to get out there and play. It’s always astounding to see the storytelling in Nike’s campaigns. The ad was directed by Omri Cohen (Hello Robot Films) with creative direction by Senthil Kumar (JWT).

As the sporting world prepares for cricket to enter semi final round play, Team India will be seen sporting Nike’s Considered team kits made from recycled plastic bottles. Nike, the official apparel sponsor for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), introduced its considered design ethos in Team India’s game day apparel in September 2010. The team began wearing this kit for the first time on pitch this spring.
