Jenny and Johnny - Committed

Jenny Lewis fans rejoice! She’s back, not with Rilo Kiley, but with a new album recorded with her boyfriend (boo!) Johnathan Rice. Get excited, as 11 summertime jams are coming our way very soon. Much of the album sounds like Jenny Lewis is behind the wheel. However, Committed is the perfect blend of their talents, almost sounding like a modern day Johnny Cash & June Carter minus the alcohol abuse.

The album, I’m Having Fun Now, comes out on August 31st and the duo hit the road on September 1st. Full tour dates available here.

Southern Star Tattoo

Last week I checked out a new tattoo parlor that recently opened on Ponce de Leon Ave. The former artists from Liberty Tattoo: Bill Conner, Brian Gattis, Chris Howell, Demian Bouchon, Eric Thrice, and Keet D’arms have put their efforts together into a new shop called Southern Star Tattoo. It’s located in the MJQ/Drunken Unicorn parking lot, a familiar place for all you locals.

As soon as you walk into the shop, your eyes are immediately attracted to bright colors and you notice the cleanliness of the shop and amazing artwork covering the walls. These guys put their blood, sweat, and tears into getting this shop up and running in only 2 MONTHS! They are great artists and they deserve the fruits of running this beautiful shop!

Call or stop in for an appointment at Southern Star Tattoo (404) 810-0080

Our friend Destiny recently got some work done on her arm in the form of chief Nokahoma from our PROCESS collection. Wow! That’s amazing that she’d be willing to put our graphic on her arm forever. Who thinks she deserves a free tee per month for life?

Greece vs. Serbia - Bench Clearing Brawl

Category: Video, FIBA
August 19th, 2010 by Larry

I’m not sure why they are fighting, but it looks like the Serbian team has some dirty fighters… There’s really no reason to fight during this international friendly match-up because both teams have qualified for the FIBA 2010 World Championship in Turkey, starting on the 28th. Maybe it’s because neither team likes their Adidas jerseys? I’d be crying too if I didn’t have a Hyper Elite jersey to play in.

The Standard and Process families are a very close and often times it’s hard to tell who’s on what side of the fence. This collaboration has been a long time coming and it pays tribute to the place we’ve spent countless hours debating sports, making fun of each other, and making ridiculous bets.

Starting on Thursday, August 26th, we’ll be printing this “1841 Peachtree” graphic to tribute the boys club that has developed over the years out of Standard’s original location.

Standard x Process Process Print Shop Hours:
-Thursday August 26th: 7 to 9pm
-Thursday September 2nd: 1 to 5pm
-Thursday September 9th: 1 to 5pm
-Thursday September 16th: 1 to 5pm

Bring Your Own Tee (B.Y.O.T) and we’ll print it up for you!

All friends new and old will are invited to come through to get their own “1841 Peachtree” tee on one of our printing days.

Special Thanks to Terminus Tees for helping to make this event happen.

Logo Uniform Jams: Cleveland Cavaliers New Uniforms

Category: Design, Cleveland, Logo Jams, NBA
August 19th, 2010 by Larry

Everyone knows that the Cleveland Cavaliers organization is approaching a new era of their franchise’s existence: The Post-LeBron Blues. I guess now was as good a time as any to make some drastic changes to the teams on-court look. The timing is right and the reasons are right to re-examine things and figure out what this team is going to be about in the future. A buddy of mine writes for Ball Don’t Lie over at Yahoo! and I thought he brought up some valid points as to why he likes this new direction. I’m with him on lots of levels but I need to chime in, so here goes.

PROS:
1) Retro Colors & Faux-back look: I’m all about embracing their “Wine & Gold” colors of the past and bringing them back out. I’m a huge fan of classic, flat, varsity gold. That’s a huge plus for me.

2) Less is More: In the past few seasons, you’d see the Cavaliers on television wearing all sorts of uniforms. It got to the point to where a casual fan couldn’t identify the real HOME & ROAD uniforms from ALTERNATE 1 & ALTERNATE 2 from THROWBACK 1 or 2. It was a hot mess. I’m assuming that the Cavs will be sticking to 2 uniforms for now. One HOME jersey and one ROAD jersey. I think I read somewhere that according to NBA rules, a team must play 3 seasons with new HOME and ROAD jerseys before applying to get approval on an alternate.

CONS:
1) Inconsistency: I hate hate hate how the “C” logo on the road uniforms is gold on the jersey and white on the shorts. Why would they do that? Also, why does the sword appear locked-up with the “C” on the shorts, but not on the back of the jersey? A good logo should stay the same no matter where you put it. Between the HOME and AWAY uniforms the logo changes colors 3 times. Someone deserves a bitch-slap for that.

2) Typography: Really? That’s the best they could come up with? The CLEVELAND CAVALIERS + Adidas got together and decided to type some letters out in an arc? C’mon guys! This is the National Basketball League. The brands are GLOBAL! This is all you could crank out? This job feels rushed. Hire us and we’ll give you some typography worthy of Anderbro Varejao to wear across his chest.

Overall Score:
1andahalfstars.jpg

I realize how well the old-school Cavs jerseys have done over the years and I love the decision to make a semi-retro statement. However, I question whether these new jerseys have just created more of the same kind of graphic statement to Cavs fans who are less than enthused about possibly missing the playoffs for years to come. More crap, same colors… Anyway, I’m fine with the concept and decisions to make a new statement. However, I’m pissed-off that someone signed off on this and someone was paid to “not think”.

A New Look for IQ Interactive

Earlier this year, Larry and I had the privilege of being brought onto a project for IQ Interactive. It was actually for IQ and not for one of their clients, which we were excited about. For awhile now, we have worked with IQ on a few projects and we were honored that they asked us to help them come up with a new identity. They just recently moved into a new office space and needed a fresh start. It was a great experience working with another company that we respect, create a brand new logo. More photos coming soon.

On day 2 of the World Basketball Festival events at Rucker Park, Kobe Bryant came out to teach during a Chainlink Fundamentals practice. Chainlink Fundamentals seeks to provide top-notch coaching to any and every kid that comes to their program. And most importantly, free of charge in comparison to other skill camps or clinics that may cost hundreds of dollars that inner-city families just don’t have. Students stopped in their tracks as Kobe made a guest appearance that they were not expecting. Kobe stuck around for the rest of the training session to provide instruction and encouragement to the kids.

The Jordan Breakfast Club event kicked off 2 days of non-stop basketball events at NY’s most famous outdoor basketball court, Rucker Park. The guests of honor were Jordan Brand representatives Dwyane Wade, Chris Paul, and Carmelo Anthony, who were on hand to meet and greet the children from local communities. The children were given a chance to shoot hoops with them as well. It’s to be noted that the usual blacktop at Rucker Park was transformed into a hardwood basketball-ready court for World Basketball Festival. To the surprise of many, Michael Jordan made an appearance.
