In celebration of the 36th anniversary of Black History Month, Nike is introducing a new, limited-edition 2012 Black History Month Collection featuring premium footwear from Nike Basketball and Nike Sportswear, along with select apparel.

The collection celebrates the achievements and pioneering spirit of three important teams: 1996 USA Basketball Women’s team, 2002 Brazil Men’s Soccer team, and the 2008 Kenyan Long-Distance running team. These teams answered the call to greatness and their legacy continues to uplift and inspire their communities.

Nike designers developed a signature graphic print and distinct colors that are featured on the shoes. This motif is inspired by the vibrant colors of International African culture, drawing visual cues from Kenyan beads, to the Brazilian Carnivale, to African-American quilt making which originated in the southern United States.

Select basketball shoes in the 2012 Black History Month collection includes the Nike Zoom KD IV, Nike Kobe VII System Supreme and LeBron 9 — all feature the pattern with dark grey as the base color of each shoe.

Nike Sportswear shoes include the Nike Air Force 1, Nike Air Max 1, Nike Blazer and 2012 Nike Huarache Free. In addition to the shoes, select apparel styles include the Nike Destroyer jacket, T-shirt and snapback hat.

In previous years, Black History Month offerings from Nike were only available to select friends and family. 2012 is the first time that Nike has put together an entire collection (they’ve previously done tees and AF1′s at most) and offered the items for retail sale, but not without the intentions of contributing to the community. In keeping with a tradition of honoring this holiday by giving back to organizations that work to inspire youth towards greatness, Nike, Inc. will make a financial contribution to Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.

The Nike Black History Month Collection will be available at select retailers such as our homies at Rock City Kicks Fayetteville and Nice Kicks, and online at NikeStore.com beginning February 11.

FKi – Transformers n’ the Hood

The long awaited FKi mixtape, Transformers n’ the Hood, has finally dropped and available for free download at livemixtapes.com. Awhile back, we posted a this video/track by FKi, a new project that was being backed by two of my favorite ATL producers, Heroes & Villains and Mayhem.

Check out the video (above) for lead single, On A Roll, Produced by Mayhem, DJ Spinz & FKi. This track has everything I’ve ever wanted the dubstep genre to embrace, including rapping and original lyrics. There’s more to dubstep than the drop! Nothing is more annoying than a track that repeats the same word or phrase for 10 minutes straight. On A Roll is the perfect blend of lyrical irreverence and wobble that the kids love.

Download the entire mixtape here. Damn, this thing kills!

We Are the Process & EC Design Co. at Good Work

Last weekend, we relocated our design studio back into the heart of Atlanta. We’re now at the cross streets of Ponce de Leon Place & Pylant in a progressive lofted office building known as Good Work. We couldn’t be happier with our new location. The new space will serve as a place for us to conduct our day-to-day branding projects for our clients as EC Design Co., and as a “factory store” for our brand, We Are the Process. Holler at us via Twitter at @WeAreTheProcess if you’re interested in visiting. If you’re in town, you can save on shipping fees by picking up gear in person.

We spent a few days transforming our new digs into a place that felt more like home. There are still some things to be done, but here are some photos documenting the process: Read more »

Illustration #4 Lion of Judah

I didn’t get a chance to create a brand new illustration this week because of the big move to the new studio… which we are all excited about. So I decided to take an older graphic and flip it. This lion was originally a Persian Lion I created for our friend, Farshad @StandardATL.

In Rastafari, “The Lion of Judah” represents Emperor Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia and is the symbol for the Rastafari movement. We’ve been listening to a lot of Reggae & Dancehall at the new studio so I thought this would be perfect for this week’s illustration.

@RuelVaz – I’ll print out a poster for you.

Sh*t (Creative Industry People) Say

Category: Design, Video
January 31st, 2012 by Larry

With the ever popular trend of Sh*t Girls Say spinoff videos, I thought I’d post some videos that apply to creative industry folks. We’ve either been in this category, or have worked with people that have said these exact lines. My favorite: “It’s not a font, it’s a typeface.” I say this to people all the time and am willing to get in an argument over that terminology. ESPECIALLY, if I drew those letters by hand! NOT A FONT! Anyway, check out all the videos all out after the jump. (Some are better than others) Read more »

iNuke Boom by Behringer

I have always thought of myself as a bit a tech-nerd. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have a subscription to MACWORLD or anything like that. It’s just a keen interest on where technologies are headed and what the market is thinking that interests me. This one, I believe, isn’t one of them: the new 700-pound and 8′×4′x4′ iPod dock known as the iNuke Boom by Behringer. The iNuke Boom was recently introduced at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Behringer describes the dock as providing “concert quality sound”, but the $29,999.99 price is like that of owning a luxury box at Carnegie Hall. This is obviously keeping up with the trend of the giant iPod Touch.

Illustration #3 – Zeus

Playing off of last week’s theme of fusing Mayan Culture with Greek Mythology, I fully developed the other character off the Famine Seal into Zeus, the top dog on Mount Olympus. According to mythology, Prometheus stole fire and gave it to man. This infuriated Zeus so he decided to punish Prometheus by chaining him to a rock and sent an Eagle to tear out his liver everyday… Ouch!
